We are currently seeking a talentedlearning assistant teacher to join the team at Student Support Services with the Department of Education. This position will have the opportunity to have focused work with a small number of students with complex needs. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply skills and training regarding self regulation traumaassumed developmentallyresponsive practice and individualized programming. The Department of Education sits on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dn First Nation and the Taan Kwchn Council within the wilderness city of Whitehorse Yukon. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor of Education or equivalent.
- Post Graduate coursework in Special Education;
- Experience developing implementing and/or revising IEPs (Individual Education Plans) or SSPs (Student Support Plans).
- Experience providing leadership case management and instruction as part of a multidisciplinary schoolbased team regarding programing for students with diverse learning needs and behavioural challenges.
- Experience using First Peoples ways of Knowing Doing and Being to support and instruct students.
- Training and/or experience in trauma responsive educational practices would be an asset.
- Experience mentoring education colleagues would be an asset.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:
Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:
- Experience teaching or providing culturally and developmentally responsive approaches for positive behaviour;
- Experience with transition planning and supporting students with exceptional needs.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and collaborative skills working with parents staff members consultants and community agencies
- An appreciation of the cultural diversity of the Yukon with the ability to incorporate and promote this diversity within the faith life of the school community;
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
