CBC Edmonton is looking for an experienced dynamic producer to help lead our toprated current affairs morning radio program Edmonton AM.
Your role
Reporting to the senior producer of Edmonton AM the producer will work with a team of journalists to create exclusive and engaging programming that sets the news agenda for Edmonton and northern Alberta.
We are looking for an innovative journalist who puts audience needs at the centre of all their decisionmaking to ensure our programming connects our audiences to the news they need to know the stories that affect their lives and the issues that resonate in their communities.

In this role youll be a leader on the team working in the afternoon and the evening to ensure we have the most uptodate news and information ready for the onair team the next morning. Youll chase breaking news and original story ideas develop program content edit scripts and audio and finalize the show lineup.
Throughout your work you will strive to broaden the range of perspectives experiences and points of view reflected on our programming especially those from people who have been traditionally underrepresented in the media. Youre driven to expand the reach of Edmonton AM to new audiences on digital social and visual platforms through dynamic multimedia content. You will also guide coach and support the members of the Edmonton AM team to produce stories of the highest quality and collaborate with journalists across the newsroom
This role requires fulltime onsite presence.
Note: This position will be generally assigned to a SundayThursday schedule with a 1 pm start time.
Your responsibilities:
Work closely with the senior producer of Edmonton AM to oversee operations of the team including vetting content making decisions about story priorities determining program lineups and providing editorial oversight to ensure our content is original relevant and interesting and meets our journalistic standards.
Pitch wellresearched original story ideas that will engage and inform the audience while deepening our community connections and elevating a range of voices.
Chase and book guests for Edmonton AM conducting research and interviews gathering audio writing radio scripts and packaging and presenting content.
Present stories on air from within the studio and out in the field providing analysis and context to enhance the audiences understanding of issues.
Respond quickly to breaking news events as they unfold and distill large amounts of complex information under tight time constraints.
Coordinate with colleagues to tailor content for audiences across all platforms (audio digital and visual) and ensure content has optimum reach.
Provide feedback and coaching to journalists to help them develop their skills and produce content of the highest quality.
Collaborate with various producers across platforms and locations.
Fill in for the senior producer of Edmonton AM as warranted.
Your profile:
Demonstrated experience working in a fastpaced daily multiplatform news environment.
Ability to generate pitch and pursue story ideas that meet the needs of our audiences in Edmonton and northern Alberta.
Sound news judgment and a demonstrated ability to react quickly to breaking news and changing priorities and chase multiple stories at once.
An experienced programmer with an ear for pacing tone presentation and production and the ability to develop and evaluate programming.
Superior writing skills and a robust knowledge of current affairs programming including familiarity with audio gathering and editing using Dalet Adobe Audition or similar software.
Strong critical thinking skills including knowledge of and familiarity with CBCs Journalistic Standards and Practices as well as the legal and ethical issues related to journalism.
Knowledge of emerging storytelling formats and willingness to embrace change and new tasks across all CBC platforms.
A strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
Superior communication interpersonal and organizational skills.
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours as required.
Possession of a valid drivers licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/RadioCanadas insurance company.
University degree in journalism or equivalent with a minimum of five years of recent related experience.
