Southpointe is seeking an enthusiastic dedicated and collaborative MYP Science Teacher who shares a commitment to inquiry and conceptbased teaching and learning. Reporting to the Middle School Principal theMYP Science Teacher position will commence August 21 2025.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
*These may include but are not limited to
- Understand the developmental stages and unique needs of middle school students and design instruction that supports their cognitive social and emotional growth;
- Enjoy teaching middle school students and bring enthusiasm patience and a sense of humour to the classroom to build strong positive connections;
- Develop an inquirybased and dynamic science education program;
- Foster an appreciation for scientific inquiry and a curiositydriven approach to understanding the natural world;
- Demonstrate strong pedagogical practice in science instruction across multiple disciplines (e.g. biology chemistry physics);
- Lead or support sciencerelated extracurricular activities such as science fairs STEM clubs or competitions throughout the year;
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support the development of an inquirybased interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning;
- Foster caring committed and supportive relationships with students and families;
Create an environment that promotes an atmosphere of mutual respect curiosity and academic integrity; - Use engaging technology including simulations and data collection tools to enhance science instruction and student learning;
- Participate in professional development training related to the IB programmes;
- Design prepare and deliver learning experiences that facilitate authentic scientific engagement and problemsolving;
- Identify and select instructional resources and methods to meet diverse student needs and learning styles;
- Design and implement a range of authentic assessments including labs and investigations that provide timely feedback to students and clear direction to parents;
- Maintain accurate ongoing and complete records of student progress for the purposes of teaching learning and reporting;
- Prepare reports conduct parentteacher conferences and communicate with parents on an ongoing basis to foster open and supportive relationships;
- Model a strong work ethic high standards of commitment and maintain excellent professionalism in all interactions with colleagues students and parents;
- Participate in communitybuilding events both in and out of school hours.
Teachers at Southpointe Academy are expected to actively support the schools cocurricular program by leading a club or coaching a team for at least two terms each year. Opportunities include coaching in athletics such as basketball volleyball soccer track and field or badminton or running student clubs aligned with academic interests leadership service or the arts. This involvement supports student engagement beyond the classroom and contributes to the schools vibrant learning community.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Education or Equivalent;
- BC Ministry of Education: Certificate of Qualification or Independent School Teaching Certificate.
- Undergraduate or graduate level training in physical education.
Preferences
- IB MYP training or teaching experience;
- At least 12 years teaching experience;
- Valid First Aid Certificate.
Salary
- Southpointes teacher salary grid will be 6% above the Delta public school grid for theschool year;
- The annual salary range for a fulltime teaching position at Southpointe Academy during theschool year is from $68422 to $116091 based on placement on the approved teacher salary grid;
- Placement on the approved teacher salary grid is based on level of qualifications and duration of fulltime teaching experience.
