You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailKootenay River Secondary School is searching for a 1.0 FTE Term Physical Education/Active Living 812 and Science 9 teacher. This position is to cover a leave and will go until January 23 2026.
School District 8 (Kootenay Lake) is nestled in the Southeast corner of British Columbia. We are a vibrant area covering 6 families of schools in the centers of Creston Crawford Bay Kaslo/Meadow Creek Nelson Salmo and the Slocan Valley. Our area is beautiful vibrant a fantastic place to raise children has a worldrenowned Arts and Entertainment community and easily accesses a variety of amazing outdoor pursuits.
The awarded applicant will have recent demonstrated successful experience working with school staff and will be knowledgeable and able to work appropriately with all students to support all learners build their connection to the land and place that they inhabit as well as foster their sense of self in acknowledging their individualized learning needs.
The successful applicant will be innovative creative and demonstrate understanding of the Redesigned BC Curriculum and the district directions. They will continually strive to improve pedagogy in a changing educational environment.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Education (Secondary) as well as demonstrated successful experience teaching Physical Education and Science at the high school level.
A valid BC teaching certificate and current membership in the Teacher Regulation Branch.
Teachers applying for this position must possess the following attributes:
Willingness to work closely with parents schoolbased teams and community partners.
Demonstrated strong classroom management skills knowledge of current instructional practices and curriculum (handson and place based).
Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills (within our family of schools throughout District as well as with larger District support staff/leadership).
Strength in developing trusting and reflective relationships with students.
Knowledge of Restitution and PBIS practices and theory or willingness to learn Restitution strategies.
A demonstrated ability to work with colleagues to build support for and with staff and students.
Excellent organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to be flexible encouraging and engaging.
Strong content and subject matter knowledge within each discipline to build literacy and numeracy skills across the curriculum.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.

be inclusive of local community (Indigenous Elders volunteers and Community Services organizations)
demonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively with others in developing school and districtbased initiatives
demonstrate knowledge of using technology to support student learning
Plan programs of study in all applicable subjects to the position that meet the needs interests and abilities of individuals to ensure success for every student
Create a classroom environment that provides student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives
Provide an instructional program to meet the needs of a variety of learning styles and includes the needs of students with disabilities
Work as part of a cohesive team in the Science and Physical Education departments to provide rich educational opportunities to students / community (fostering an interest and love of learning)
Work closely with the school case manager counselor and administration to deliver a supportive learning assistance program to a variety of students
Plan for and utilize instructional methods resources and evaluation techniques which motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives
Assess the learning and behavioral needs of students on a regular basis and provides input as needed to IEPs of students with disabilities ensuring the implementation of modifications including coteaching as needed and;
Establish relationships with colleagues students parents and community which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual
