The Planning & Development Support Officer ensures that the functions and responsibilities of the Planning & Development Department are delivered and fulfilled in an accurate efficient effective professional and informed manner; in keeping with relevant Council policies procedures and relevant legislation.

What youll be doing:

  • Ensure that all Departmental administrative tasks are undertaken in a professional and timely manner including but not limited to:
  1. Processing of applications lodgements referrals advertisement and permit documentation archive and file maintenance data processing and mail notices orders infringements debtors and invoicing.
  2. Providing word and data processing support to the Planning & Development Department.
  3. Compile and process reports submissions and other documents prepared by officers to customers residents ratepayers and stakeholders including statutory authorities and Councils other operational areas.
  4. Participating in multiskilling programs necessary for the effective operation of the department.
  5. Responding to customer enquiries via email telephone post and face to face via counter style enquiries.
  • Provide customer service administrative support and information to internal and external customers of the Planning & Development Department.

  • Ensure that personal work plans objectives and priorities are prepared and maintained to ensure personal workloads timelines and rosters are managed and achieved.
  • Ensure compliance with the relevant quality systems and policies of the Council.

The skills and experience youll bring to the role:

  • A nationally recognised Certificate in Administration or substantial relevant experience in the administrative processes and procedures of local government.
  • Accurate data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience with the statutory planning and/or building development legislation in a Council environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of MS Office applications and the use of processing data software such as Property & Rating and TRIM.
  • Understanding of the functions and procedures associated with the building and development industry.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills including the ability to gain cooperation and assistance from other staff and customers from a range of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to follow procedures and guidelines.
