Department Information

The Institute of Cannabis Research (ICR) is responsible for implementing cannabis research and dissemination of cannabis research results through initiatives including but not limited to hosting an international cannabis research conference and the publication of its research journal Journal of Cannabis Research. Its mission is to generate new knowledge of cannabis and its derivatives through research and education that improves lives and contributes to science medicine and society.

Description of Job

The Grants Manager and Grants Accountant of the ICR reports to the Director of the ICR. This fulltime administrative professional position involves the planning implementation and supervision of all ICR researchrelated programming as well as support of the international conference and its journal Journal of Cannabis Research.This includes managing research funding processes e.g. statewide Request for Applications (RFA) for cannabis research funding grants contracting and grants accounting. In addition this position involves the facilitation supervision and fiscal control of the Institutes accounts. This position oversees grants and contracts where the ICR is serving as the funding agency as well as the ICR being the recipient of external support. This position will support budget management for the ICR. This position serves as the Institutes research administrator as well as in an advisory support capacity for additional programming opportunities and facilitates ICR relations on campus and in the broader community. The successful candidate will be detailoriented with tangible financial management/accounting experience.


Primary Duties
Serve as the fiscal officer of the ICRs research and business accounts. Provide timely progress and budget reports to the ICR Director and Committees and Boards as needed.

Manage research relationships with institutions and investigators supported through the ICR to include research agreements (contracts) agreement amendments project account set up invoice processing investigator reporting and project data management. This includes liaising with Business Services the Purchasing Department and the Office of General Counsel to facilitate ICR supported research projects.

As the ICRs Research Administrator support research collaborations involving ICR staff including budget development; contract development negotiation and management; account setup; fiscal oversight and reporting.

Manage ICRs statewide research grant program. This includes the call for proposals; managing the letters of intent portal application portal and application review by subject matter experts; and coordinating input from the ICRs Governing Board.

Manage respond to and where appropriate direct all inquiries to the ICR Director or other university personnel and support the Director as necessary with research compliance issues.

Provide assistance with respect to the overall efficient and effective administration of the ICR office including budgets policies procedures and technology.

Develop and coordinate the requests and needs of the ICR Governing Board. Support the ICR Director and ICR Governing Board Chair as needed for meeting facilitation and actionable items as well as ad hoc requests by the Board.


Ancillary Duties
Other duties as assigned such as support and assistance with ICR annual events such as ICRs annual conferences and fundraising events which may occasionally require travel.

Salary Range
$55000 to $72000

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution
  • Evidence of the ability to manage multiple projects to a timely conclusion in a fastpaced environment with competing time demands
  • Evidence of the ability to develop effective working relationships with colleagues superiors subordinates the general public
  • Evidence of excellent communication organizational and problemsolving skills
  • Evidence of the knowledge with all aspects of Microsoft Office products Word Excel (spreadsheets graphing and charting) and PowerPoint
  • Evidence of strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in research administration and compliance
  • Experience with research/grants fiscal management and accounting
  • Experience in a position that required working with and maintaining highly confidential information
  • Evidence of management experience in the areas of academic professional research or educational programs
  • Experience managing and monitoring a program budget
  • Evidence of experience preparing presentations and reports
  • Experience or commitment to working staff from varied backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree from accredited institution
  • Researchrelated graduate or terminal degree
  • Certified Research Administrator
  • Demonstrated abilities with advanced desktop publishing software such as InDesign
  • Experience developing maintaining and managing web pages
  • Experience interpreting and applying policies from multiple levels of authority (e.g. federal state and institutional)
  • Experience working with the Kuali financial management system or other equivalent financial management system
  • Experience submitting to National Institutes of Health (NIH) NationalScienceFoundation(NSF)or other scientific or educational grants
  • Experience as a grants accountant
  • Demonstrated experience with grant subawards and federal compliance (IRB IACUC RCR etc.)
  • Experience working with the InfoReady platform
