    JOB SUMMARY:

    Assists the Principal in School Improvement activities

    Assists the Principal in providing a comprehensive educational program for students

    Assists the Principal in improving student performance by:

    Assessing educational and programming needs

    Coordinating the use of instructional tools and strategies

    Collecting data for evaluating and reporting student progress

    Coordinating overall afterschool programs activities and functions

    Assists the Principal in student management:

    Implements appropriate procedures and maintains consistent practices within the school discipline program

    Serves as liaison with student support services such as transportation

    Assists the Principal in staff development by:

    Identifying topics for staff development

    Planning and coordinating schoolwide staff development activities

    Researching and disseminating information on best practices for school improvement goals

    Assists the Principal with planning activities for accreditation and preparing accreditation documents

    Assists the Principal with the walkthrough observations formal observations and evaluation of teaching staff

    Assists the Principal with the evaluation of nonteaching staff

    Assists the Principal with creating and managing budgets requisitions and allocation of supplies equipment and instructional materials

    Assists the Principal with the preparation of class schedules cumulative records and IEP/MET documents

    Assists the Principal with the hiring of teaching and other staff

    Assists the Principal with monitoring the safety and security of the school campus

    Position will be responsible for some or all of the listed duties and/or additional duties that occur from time to time


    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

    Current Arizona K12 Principal certification Three years experience as a teacher preferably of students who are Blind/Visually Impaired or Deaf/Hard of Hearing

    Two years as a supervisor or administrator in an educational setting with experience in supervision/management team leadership and budget administration

    Demonstrated background in developing student specific interventions curriculum and instruction

    Fluent in ASL

    LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

    Must be able to pass FBI and State background check

    Defensive Driver Training Program to be completed by all agency personnel that drive on State business

    Masters Degree in Education of the Blind/Visually Impaired or Deaf/Hard of Hearing or Educational Leadership

    Arizona Principals Certification or eligible for Certification by the Arizona Department of Education (Must complete Arizona Principal Certification within two years of hire)

    KNOWLEDGE OF

    Principals policies and programs of the immediate work unit

    Principles and practices of administration and management

    Agency or program rules regulations and operating procedures

    Applicable Federal and State laws as they apply to the position

    Best practices in education and learning for students with special education needs

    Best practices in education and learning for students in the general curriculum

    Deafness and blindness and the effects on instruction for students who are Deaf/HH or Blind/VI

    Instructional methods for use with students who are Deaf/HH or Blind/VI

    Student assessments in standardized testing Arizona State Standards and progress monitoring of students (report cards IEP progress reporting curriculum based measures etc.)

    Effects of reasonable accommodations and instructional modifications for students who are Deaf/HH or Blind/VI

    Arizona State Standards and implementation of the standards in the classroom and other instructional activities (community based)

    Applicable Federal and State laws and regulations regarding general and special education including postsecondary transition planning

    Child development behavioral intervention strategies effective team collaboration

    Appropriate lines of communication and authority

    DEMONSTRATED SKILL/ABILITY TO

    Communicate with staff students families and the community

    Planning and organization

    Budget planning and implementation

    Interpersonal skills including respectful and courteous treatment of all agency staff

    Supervise

    Plan staff development and train staff

    Mediate and independently problem solve

    Handle student discipline
