Penn Machine Company a Marmon Group/Berkshire Hathaway Company is a proven 100 year old company in a growth industry. We are a leading manufacturer of products and services for the Oil & Gas industry Transit Railroad Mining and general industry in the US and globally.
We are looking for a dedicated Gear Design Engineer to join our team and drive excellence in the production of gears and our other products for our customers.
This new position will be a gear expert within our Engineering department to support both of our facilities (Johnstown PA and Blairsville PA) to:
Design develop and optimize gear manufacturing processes including machining hobbing grinding and heat treat
Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to ensure quality and performance standards
Select appropriate tools materials and machines for gear production
Design fixtures and special tooling to support manufacturing
Implement and support continuous improvement and Lean initiatives
Collaborate with design quality and production teams to resolve manufacturing challenges
Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for gearrelated and product issues
Stay current with industry trends gear standards (e.g. AGMA ISO) and emerging technologies
Requirements for successful candidate include:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering Manufacturing Engineering or related field
5 years of experience in high volume gear manufacturing
Experience in generated heat treat recipes metallurgical experience and gear design required
Solid understanding of gear types (spur helical bevel etc.) and gear cutting methods
Familiarity with CNC machines CAD/CAM software and gear design software
Strong analytical problemsolving and communication skills.
Strong understanding of lean manufacturing Black belt certification is a plus.
