The department Audio and Media Technologies conducts research and development for audio codecs that meet the requirements of mobile communications applications and contributes to standardization efforts.
- Immersive Audio Coding for Mobile Communications: You will dive into the exciting world of Ambisonics coding within the innovative 3GPP IVAS codec
- Ambisonics Audio Processing: You develop implement and test different methods for coding and rendering Ambisonics signals
- Combined Audio Formats: You investigate improvements for combined coding and rendering of Ambisonics and ObjectBased Audio
- Conducting Audio Quality Assessments: You set up and evaluate perceptual audio quality tests (MUSHRA RefAB P800)
- Optimizing Quality Evaluation Tools: You use and improve tools for setting up and evaluating perceptual quality tests
- You have a bachelors degree in natural science or engineering
- You are currently studying for a masters degree
- You have experience with the C and Python programming languages
- You have a very good understanding of Linear Algebra
- You are interested in current developments in Immersive Audio Coding
- You have excellent English skills or excellent German skills and solid English skills
- You ideally have a basic understanding of Digital Signal Processing and Ambisonics

We will agree your start date and weekly working hours with you individually (12 to 20 hours per week as a working student). You can reduce your hours before exams and increase them during semester breaks. You can set your working days flexibly. After your studies there are attractive opportunities to join the institute on a fulltime or parttime basis.
We would be happy to offer you the opportunity to write a masters thesis in cooperation with us in the abovementioned subject area. The thesis will be assigned and carried out in accordance with the rules of your university. For this reason please discuss the thesis with a professor who can advise you over the course of the project.
