Your role
RadioCanadas Rad journalism lab is looking for a videojournalist. In this role you will produce short videos and stories for all Rad platforms in line with corporate standards and policies.
Key tasks:
Keep up with news through a variety of sources.
Cultivate a network of sources.
Propose and be assigned topics for news stories reports interviews and indepth features.
Research gather evaluate and vet all elements of the story being covered.
Plan reports around the story to be told. Conduct interviews assess their relevance and select the appropriate clips.
Scout locations. Set up and operate a light video camera and related equipment. Ensure the highestquality sound and images.
Provide lighting for subjects or backgrounds. Select and shoot images. Prepare visual material for reports ensuring that it complies with technical and esthetic requirements for broadcasts.
View footage and prepare shot and sequence lists.
Decide on story angles. Script and narrate reports. Suggest an intro. Write various copy stories in the style appropriate for the platform.
Edit your reports.
Convey information through various means (news copy clips packs reports interviews etc.).
Deliver reports on air.
Inform newsroom management of any event that warrants a news flash or special coverage.
Ensure the availability of the resources required to produce your reports.
Drive a news vehicle.
Ensure your equipment is in proper working order making minor emergency repairs as needed.
Create a library of stock footage and archival material.
Carry out all other related tasks as needed.
What you bring:
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or equivalent
Three (3) years journalism experience or equivalent
Skills:
Broad general knowledge
Good knowledge of current events
Strong interviewing writing and storytelling skills
Knowledge of video and editing techniques
Understanding of CBC/RadioCanadas Journalistic Standards and Practices
Solid command of French (working language)
Very good knowledge of the other official language is an asset
Valid drivers licence
