Job Description

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of highquality drinking water managing wastewater and stormwater and reducing air noise and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country with nearly 6000 employees. DEPs water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the systems 2000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.

The Bureau of Coastal Resilience (BCR) was created in October 2023 fulfilling a major initiative in Mayor Adams PlaNYC strategy aimed at addressing the risks of current and future coastal flooding in New York City.

The Bureau of Coastal Resiliences vision is for a vibrant healthy and safe coastal environment that allows people and businesses to thrive in the face of a changing climate and specifically to sea level rise high tide events and storm surge. This requires a holistic forward thinking inclusive and equitable response to the risks of coastal flooding and an integrated approach to watershed management. BCR will develop and implement strategic planning initiatives and will be responsible for the operations and maintenance of coastal infrastructure assets along NYCs 520 miles of shoreline. BCR is committed to a coordinated approach to planning and response across NYC agencies while working closely with community and partners.

BCR is seeking to hire a Coordinator Engineering (the Coordinator) who will report to the Director Engineering and will be part of the team responsible for the development and implementation of a robust Operations Planning & Asset Management system for the Bureau of Coastal Resilience. The Coordinator will support the asset management activities for DEPs 520 miles of shoreline and its coastal storm risk management infrastructure. They will support the development of standards & protocols as well as handover activities of new assets. The Coordinator will assist in ensuring records management and operations & maintenance plans are supported with the agencies tracking systems. The Coordinator may participate in design reviews on behalf of BCR and coordinate comments from other DEP bureaus and city agencies ensuring consensus prior to finalizing designs. In addition the Coordinator will look for opportunities to enhance BCR performance including through development of bureau visual mapping assets and databases.

The Coordinator Engineering will be tasked with:

Applying strong organization and project management skills in order to manage multiple tasks and complex systems.

Participate in committees and workshops to implement a new Asset Management system.

Provide project documentation for all phases of the projects and coordinate with CMMS and asset management activities.

Assist with commissioning and acceptance of new coastal resilience assets.

Maintain project databases and metadata.

Review design drawings for coastal infrastructure projects and ensure compliance with existing regulations and policies.

Coordinate feedback from other DEP bureaus and city agencies on coastal infrastructure standards and procedures.

Coordinate meetings as needed with subject matter experts internal and external partners.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other NYC agencies and other bureaus within DEP.

Strong written and verbal communication skills and a responsive and customer service driven attitude is an important asset for this position.

Qualifications :

1. A baccalaureate degree in environmental chemical mechanical petroleum aeronautical or materials engineering from an accredited college or university and one year of fulltime satisfactory experience in environmental engineering work; or

2. A baccalaureate degree in environmental chemical mechanical petroleum aeronautical or materials
engineering from an accredited college and masters degree in environmental engineering from an accredited college.

A masters degree in environmental engineering from an accredited college can only be used to substitute for one year of fulltime satisfactory work experience in environmental engineering.
