Senior Scientist I, Process Development

The Senior Scientist I will play a key role in the purification process development group for biologics at AbbVie Waltham Area (AWA).  Ideal candidates will conceive and implement novel experimental and/or modeling approaches to answer scientific questions. The mission of this team is to address challenging problems in biologics development areas by working collaboratively and crossfunctionally by developing appropriate tools and technologies to enable right at first pass scaleup and technology transfer of biologics modalities manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop recovery and purification process that utilizes clarification chromatography and membrane filtration technologies for monoclonal antibodies bispecifics and antibody drug conjugates (ADC). Provide deeper understanding of process performance using appropriate experimental and modeling tools.
• Design and execute process development and characterization activities impurity and viral clearance studies. Highly independent and productive in performing laboratory research and/or development requiring only minimal direction from or interaction with supervisor.
• Responsible for technology transfer to pilot lab and cGMP manufacturing facilities troubleshooting and investigation activities. Provide personinplant support for pilot and/or cGMP manufacturing campaigns.
• Leveraging stateofart data science and data engineering technology to develop digital tools database and visualization platform
• Proactively seek opportunities to come up with innovative solutions to address business challenges and accelerate process development.
• Exhibit a strong motivation to implement and advance various innovative technologies (such as continuous manufacturing automation and/or novel resins and filters) in relevant areas across AbbVie.
• Routinely demonstrate scientific initiative and creativity in research or development activities. Capable of being a primary author of publications presentations regulatory documents and/or primary inventor of patents.
• Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct safety appropriate handling of materials controlled drug and radioactive compounds GxP compliance and animal care where applicable.

Qualifications :

• Bachelors Degree or equivalent education and typically 10 years of experience Masters Degree or equivalent education and typically 8 years of experience PhD with 02 years experience necessary.
• Education background in chemical engineering biomedical engineering biochemistry biochemical engineering or biotechnology is preferred.
• Experience in areas of data engineer data science machine learning process optimization and datadriven/mechanistic modeling is strongly preferred
• Experience in areas of purification process development is strongly preferred.
• Experience in areas of continuous manufacturing is preferred
• Demonstrate excellent communication skills and specifically illustrate strong oral and written technical communications.
• Seamlessly present research outcomes to multifunctional teams
• Play a strong team player in a cross functional collaborative environment thriving for world class excellence and maintains strong working relationships with internal global and external collaborators.
• Demonstrated problemsolving skills and capability to overcome complex issues.

• The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
