Job Description

TITLE SUBJECT COORDINATOR

TEAM SOCIAL STUDIES

RESPONSIBLE TO MIDDLE PHASE AND JUNIOR PHASE HEAD TEACHERS

JOB FUNCTION To ensure quality teaching and learning of the subject.

DUTIES

  1. Development Plans. To coordinate the annual preparation implementation and review of a well prioritised ambitious but achievable subject team development plan.
  2. Subject Handbook. To maintain a complete correct and uptodate subject handbook in line with all relevant BSK policies procedures and standards.
  3. Schemes of Work. To ensure that the subject team creates reviews and refines schemes of work which include the appropriate National Curriculum Ministry of Education and/or Examination Board content provide clear progression for students and adhere fully to the Teaching and Learning Policy and that are placed as Word or Excel documents in the correct folder of the school network for viewing by Leadership Teams.
  4. Resource Management. To coordinate the careful selection budgeting requisitioning storage maintenance and use of appropriate resources to support the curricular and extracurricular work of the subject team.
  5. Resource Development. To coordinate the creation and ongoing development by subject team members of high quality learning resources.
  6. Extracurricular Opportunities. To coordinate subject team ECA activities at break time and after school. Provide students with a range of opportunities to further explore the subject and other social/personal/physical development.
  7. Compliance. To ensure full implementation within the subject team of the Assessment Reporting and Recording Policy; Marking and Feedback Policy; Homework Policy; Secondary Homework Procedure; Rewards and Sanctions Policy; Learning Environment Policy; Standards of Written Work; and all other applicable policies procedures and standards.
  8. Lesson Quality. To appraise the performance of colleagues within the subject team and provide or facilitate such training or support as may be necessary to ensure that lesson planning and delivery meets or exceeds the minimum BSK standard defined within the Teaching and Learning Policy.
  9. Subject Meetings. To chair effective subject team meetings and ensure the timely distribution of suitable meeting reports to subject team members and the logging of minutes in the correct folder of the school network for viewing by Leadership Teams.
  10. Primary to Secondary Transition. To liaise effectively with the Junior Phase Assistant Head Teacher and/or Primary Subject Component Coordinators to ensure seamless crossphase curricular transition.
  11. Events. To represent your subject at all relevant school events such as Transition events MP Awards Evening HP Festival of Achievement Parent Information Evenings etc.
  12. Liaison. To liaise effectively on behalf of the subject team with all relevant managers including the Examinations Officer Assistant Phase Coordinators Assistant Head Teachers Head Teachers or Principal. To liaise effectively with the Ministry of Education and Private Education Department on the requirements of Social Studies including providing evidence in Schemes of Work timetables and student work.
  13. ECT Mentoring. To undergo the necessary mentor training if required to enable the successful mentoring of early career teachers in their induction year who join the subject team.

Other Duties. To carry out other related duties as required by the Head Teachers or Principal.

Safeguarding

Prospective candidates should submit the details of at least two previous employers as referees which must be their two most recent employers covering a minimum of four years of employment or all of their employment if the candidate has less than four years of experience.

If a candidate has only one previous employer two references can be provided from the same employer.

For candidates in a school where the line manager is providing a reference the reference must be countersigned by the Head Teacher or Principal.

All successful applicants will be required to undergo an enhanced criminal background check and must provide a detailed residential history for the last ten (10) years.
