QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Possession of a Masters Degree in Education or equivalent in educational administration and/or another related field;
  • A minimum of 3 years of successful practice as a school Administrator;
  • A minimum of 2 years experience working in an elementary setting which integrates experiential learning and incorporates First Nations culturally relevant content within the past 5 years.
  • Successful teaching experience Grades K7 in a minimum of two school locations;
  • Effective leadership in diverse school settings;
  • Experience supporting culturally diverse communities to achieve student learning success;
  • Experience supporting success for vulnerable learners with appropriate interventions;
  • Proven leadership in promoting healthy active living;
  • Demonstrated ability as an Administrator to improve student literacy and numeracy competencies with measured results;
  • Completion of provincial/regional Principal and/or Supervisory Officer Qualifications is an asset
  • Experience working with Yukon First Nations students families and partners is an asset;
  • Understanding education and experience with developing language revitalization and Yukon First Nation Culture learning programs is an asset;
  • Competency with Yukon First Nations language(s) is an asset;
  • Demonstrated understanding of Bruce Perrys NeuroSequential Model for Education (NME) and Ready to Learn School practices.

NOTE: Candidates who have the equivalent combination of acceptable education training and experience to the education criteria identified above will be equally considered

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop establish and maintain rapport with students parents staff School Council and Yukon First Nations;
  • Strong and effective leadership skills with the demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate teachers and students to reach their full potential;
  • Strong planning and organizational skills;
  • A knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of First Nations people an awareness of the legacy and historical impact of residential schools on First Nations learners and experience working and supporting First Nations learners in a diverse multicultural setting including the ability to implement relevant Calls toAction of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in a school setting;
  • Strong decision making skills demonstrating effective listening ability to accommodate and to mediate diverse views to stand up for what is best for students and the school community and to stand firm with informed decisions;
  • Administrative skills required to supervise budget develop and implement school procedures schedule for optimum learning select and supervise staff and manage risk;
  • Experience with and commitment to restorative practice and positive approaches to behaviour interventions and support;
  • Ability to use curriculum to support innovation and transform instructional practices that enhance student engagement and learning outcomes;
