Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Pharmacy or other Registered Pharmacist the Pharmacy Technician supports and assists in the prescription filling process and inputs information into the computer system (as permitted by law and under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist). This position is responsible for performing supportive clerical and technical tasks to assist the pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care. Accuracy reliability and excellent customer service skills are the cornerstone of the pharmacy technician expectations. May perform receiving and stores clerk functions.

The VFC Vaccine Coordinator is responsible for maintaining both private (CHN owned) and VFC vaccine inventory as well as ensuring compliance with all requirements of the VFC program. Requirements of the position include but are not limited to using AlertIIS to track private and VFC vaccine received administered wasted or expired. Ensuring proper training of personnel responsible for administering or handling vaccines and documentation of completed training in AlertIIS. Communicating with providers nurses and medical assistants and coordinating patient care to ensure accurate and appropriate vaccine use. The position is also responsible for attending yearly VFC inspections and completing any corrections found by the VFC inspector. This position reports directly to the Director of Pharmacy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assists in maintaining medication inventory including ordering stocking/organizing/ rotating checking expiration dates disposition of expired medications and maintaining purchasing records.

Manage Pyxis inventory including accurate selection and loading of medications evaluate medication use trends to maintain appropriate par levels and ensure removal of expired/damaged medications in a timely manner.

Record refrigerator/freezer temperatures daily ensuring that medications are stored at appropriate temperatures. Maintain refrigerator/freezer temperature logs.

Performs daily monthly and quarterly cleaning of the IV admixture areas.

Prepares IV admixtures under aseptic conditions. Compounds medications using standard formulas and processes such as weighing measuring and mixing ingredients.

Accurately prepare medications in unit of use containers ensuring correct labeling of medication and documentation.

Records refrigerator & freezer temperatures daily ensuring that medications are stored at appropriate temperatures.

Maintains refrigerator & freezer temperature logs. Documents temperature excursions if applicable.

Manages pharmacy vaccine inventory and ensures compliance with all aspects of the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program.

Ensures compliance with and usage of AlertIIS to track vaccine usage and trainings.

Works with Clinic providers nurses and medical assistants in all aspects of vaccine administration and recordkeeping

Performs other duties as assigned or requested to support the overall needs of the department and in accordance with Curry Health Networks Mission Vision and Shared Values.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience

High School Diploma or the equivalent is required.

Must possess a valid unencumbered Oregon Pharmacy Technician license.

Must have passed a national pharmacy technician certification examination or complete within one year of hire.

Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities

Able to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.

Knowledge of Oregon Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations to ensure adherence to all requirements.

Basic computer knowledge.

Effective organizational and time management skills.

Ability to work closely and professionally with others.
