Thats why we are looking for an experienced geotechnical engineer.

Role description:

Working at Arcadis means being involved in diverse and complex geotechnical issues. The focus is on structural geotechnics such as retaining walls foundations quay walls mooring piles and reinforced soils. From designing a dike reinforcement to deep excavations and quay walls. Your tasks include independently defining supervising and interpreting soil investigations as well as establishing principles based on standards and guidelines. You will perform design calculations and prepare your design reports using common geotechnical software. Additionally you will guide junior staff in carrying out their tasks. In your designs you pay explicit attention to economic optimization feasibility environmental impact and Safety by Design. You utilize your digital skills to further standardize and automate the work and design processes.

As a geotechnical designer you are part of the Water Engineering and Maritime Infrastructure advisory group and thus part of a vast network within Arcadis. We are an enthusiastic team of young and energetic colleagues who collaborate with highly experienced senior advisors. We have an open and cooperative work culture and constantly help each other to grow. You will collaborate with designers and engineers in both wet and dry infrastructure and be part of Arcadis extensive international network of geotechnical experts. Its an excellent opportunity to develop your expertise both within and outside projects and contribute to innovation and automation of designs. You will have ample opportunity to delve into substantive work and tackle developments that align with your personal interests.

Geotechnical engineering plays a crucial role in various project phases from advising during the planning phase for clients collaborating with contractors in tender consortia to analyzing monitoring data during implementation. This spans across a wide range of public and private clients.

We are involved in all phases where projects can be from feasibility to execution design. We do this on both the client side as well the contractor side. This makes our work diverse and challenging. Some notable projects that your future team the Water Engineering & Maritime Infrastructure advisory group has worked on are:
Renovation of the Afsluitdijk the longest levee of the Netherlands
Storm Surge Barrier Nieuwpoort in Belgium
Bridges and quay walls in the historic center of Amsterdam
Many quay walls and jetties in the ports of Rotterdam Amsterdam and beyond

Qualifications & Experience:

As an experienced engineer you have an entrepreneurial and professional attitude. You feel at home in a resultsoriented environment where your innovative solutions and advice can shine. You are a true team player but you can also work excellently independently. Furthermore you have:

  • A completed academic degree in Civil Engineering preferably with a specialization in geotechnical engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience as a geotechnical designer or specialist;
  • Strong focus on structural geotechnics (foundations and retaining walls);
  • Experience with geotechnical software such as Plaxis 2D / 3D is a plus;
  • Excellent command of the English language both verbally and in writing.

If you have experience with hydraulic engineering structures (quay walls mooring piles locks etc.) and/or an affinity for programming (Python Mathcad VB) we definitely consider that a plus.
