Job Description
Westchester a Chubb company is looking to expand the Middle Market Casualty team. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Underwriter to join our dynamic team in Jersey City NJ. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in primary casualty insurance with a focus on E&S underwriting. This role requires a deep understanding of the insurance market excellent analytical skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with wholesale brokers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and underwrite primary casualty insurance submissions in the E&S space focusing on Real Estate Products and Construction sectors.
- Help develop underwriting guidelines and appetite
- Collaborate with wholesale brokers to assess risks determine coverage options and negotiate terms and pricing.
- Analyze loss history financial statements and other relevant data to make informed underwriting decisions.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients to facilitate business growth and retention.
- Stay current on industry trends regulatory changes and market conditions to inform underwriting strategies.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior underwriters and support team development.
- Prepare and present underwriting recommendations to management and stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures as well as regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Finance Business Risk Management or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in underwriting primary casualty insurance preferably in the E&S market.
- Strong knowledge of underwriting principles practices and guidelines.
- Experience in Real Estate Products and Construction insurance is highly preferred.
- Excellent analytical and decisionmaking skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with brokers and clients.
- Proficient in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Professional designations (e.g. CPCU AU) are a plus.
