Job Description

AbingtonFriends School (AFS) is an independent coeducational college preparatory dayschool for students age three through grade twelve. AFS provides an exceptionalprogram informed by traditional Quaker values and testimonies. TheDirector of Major Giving is a newly created position within the Institutional AdvancementOffice charged with deepening relationships with new and existing leadershipand major giving prospects; qualifying cultivating soliciting and stewardinghighlevel commitments; and furthering the objectives outlined in the strategicvision for Abington Friends School Leadingby Design: Education for a Changing World. As AFS embarks on a capitalcampaign this Director will have tremendous impact partnering closely withthe Assistant Head of School for Institutional Advancement the Head of School andcampaign counsel in securing annual capital and planned gifts.

Thisis an ideal opportunity for an authentic and missiondriven professional eagerto make a significant mark on the success of a campaign be involved in thelife of a vibrant creative community and help to build and sustain a cultureof philanthropy at AFS.

Responsibilities includebut are not limited to:

  • Developand implement a strategic plan of action (with objectives timelines annualwork plans and evaluation metrics) to research identify cultivate solicitand steward the major giving prospect pipeline.
  • Conduct regular facetoface visits with prospects for the purpose of soliciting annual fund and major gifts including planned gifts and advancing the Schools relationship with the donor.
  • Work closely with the Assistant Head of School for Institutional Advancement to:
    • Managecampaign and ongoing major gifts planning (business plan budget and timeline).
    • Coordinatecampaign volunteer committees.
    • Coordinatecampaign communications strategy in concert with the Directors of Marketing andCommunication.
    • Managecampaign cultivation events working with the Advancement team to coordinatedetails.
  • Ensureproper campaign and major gifts donor recognition and stewardship and ongoingplaque & signage audit.
  • Useof Raisers Edge database for prospect management ensuring rating and trackingsystem is utilized effectively.
  • Traveland night/evening event duties required.
  • Assistthe Assistant Head of School for Institutional Advancement with projects andevents as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:


Theideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience preferably in anindependent school or educational setting with a proven track record of cultivatingand securing major and planned gifts. Knowledge of advanced fundraisingtechniques including donor stewardship is essential. The candidate will havethe proven ability to manage projects and be able to work independently and ona team. This position requires a bachelors degree or higher and a candidatewith strong interpersonal oral and written communication skills who isproficient with Microsoft Office and Raisers Edge software.
