Job Description

AECOM is a leading multidisciplinary construction consultancy and we are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to be based in Cardiff. The successful candidate shall ideally have proven Mechanical building services design experience in delivering Healthcare and Education projects. This role will suit someone with a Chartered Engineering status (or working towards this) and Mechanical engineering/building services degree who is enthusiastic selfmotivated and looking to advance their career.

We have a comprehensive understanding of the latest net zero agenda particularly through our involvement in the development of the Net Zero Framework and where we are currently delivering net zero carbon hospital and education buildings.

In Wales we have been instrumental in helping the Health boards and NHS Wales to understand what Net Zero entails and they various ways to address it. Over the last 5 years we delivered over 100 refurbishment projects locally while delivering an award winning healthcare and higher education projects.


The Principal Engineer will be responsible for leading small medium and large scale Healthcare and Higher Education projects primarily in the UK . This will involve bidding work client care mentoring and leading project teams to prepare scheme and detailed engineering designs. The successful candidate will have proven design experience proven experience in leading projects (Healthcare in particular) delivering to quality time and budget. This role will suit someone with who is enthusiastic selfmotivated and looking to advance their career. 

You will be required to be based in Cardiff office in an agile environment.

Duties of the role will include but not be limited to; 

  • Leading Mechanical team on healthcare or Education projects
  • Mentoring and developing junior staff 
  • Assessing staff requirements at each work stage and be able to manage single disciplinary and multidisciplinary projects 
  • Obtain the necessary information both internally and externally from Architects Quantity Surveyors and Design Consultants to provide a fully coordinated design 
  • Ensure the Design Team is kept fully informed of all technical and other information necessary for the duration of the project 
  • Undertake the control of all production aspects of the projects in the team 
  • Be familiar with the BIM design process and be capable of leading projects designed in Revit 
  • Ensure compliance with all Statutory and Regulatory obligations make submissions to the Statutory Authorities and obtain approvals as necessary 
  • Produce all design information and ensure that all calculations are prepared and signed off in accordance with the requirements of the QA procedures relevant Standards and Codes of Practice 
  • Represent AECOM at Client Design Team and Progress meetings throughout the design and construction phases of projects 
  • Input to prequalification and selection of contractors respond to tender queries comment and review tender returns 
  • Attend tender / client interviews 
  • Attend site inspection meetings 
  • Ensure the project work complies with the Project Management Plan and Programme 
  • Understand and implement AECOMs Safety Health and Environment Policy 

Minimum Requirements

  • Successful track record of mechanical building services design in healthcare and/or education sector
  • A highly motivated individual with a passion for succeeding and developing
  • Have previous experience working as either a Senior / Principal Engineer
  • Excellent communicator (both written and verbal) with strong negotiation skills.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as CIBSE ASHRAE EI.
  • Good understanding of software packages used to the design mechanical building services systems.
  • Experience in delivering projects using BIM software packages (Revit IES)

 


Qualifications :

  • Degree in Building Services or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Should either be chartered or working towards accreditation 
  • Post graduate experience
  • The successful candidate will preferably have had experience in the design and delivery of healthcare facilities and be familiar with HTM/HBN
