The middle school counselor renders educational and personal guidance service to students individually and in groups and serves therein as liaison between the school and home. The duties commonly associated with the position include but are not limited to: counseling students in educational choices counseling students on educational adjustments and other academic matters advising students who seek a change in curriculum helping students who are dropout prone to remain in school helping students plan and make choices on education at the next higher level communicating with students parents and other district employees to work on behalf of students disseminating information on educational grants scholarships and loan opportunities and helping students apply helping students apply for admission to other educational institutions (i.e. private or parochial school) providing orientation for new students giving individual guidance on the students personal problems when these problems affect the school or students school work serving as liaison and coordinator for referrals to specialized help conducting conferences during and after school hours with parents/caregivers and teachers promoting equity and appreciation of diversity
