Job Description

Summer LOOP Activity Leader

Department: Community and Student Affairs

Unit: Summer

Wage: $17.23 per hour

Program Dates: June 16 2025 July 24 2025

LOOP PD: June 9 and June 12

Direct Supervisor: Director of Extended Learning/LOOP

JOB SUMMARY

The Activity Leader will assist the Site Coordinator in the planning developing and implementing of classroom activities for after school programs at local schools. This position requires facetoface leadership in this program and may involve early morning responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Regular on time and in person attendance is an essential function of this job. Other essential functions may include but are not limited to the following:

Program Management Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and leading daily lesson plans.
  • Participate and assist in daily classroom activities.
  • Provide weekly lesson plans to the Site Coordinator.
  • Provide each participants parent with information on individual activities daily. Prepare materials for daily activities.
  • Maintain records of attendance arrival times and departure times.
  • Always maintain supervision of scholars.
  • Attend all meetings trainings and program planning sessions scheduled and/or specified by the Office of Extended Learning (OEL).
  • Maintains a safe environment.
  • Enforces all rules regulations policies and procedures.
  • Uses positive behavior interventions supports/SEL methods; recommend or initiate other measures to correct behavior.

Please Note: All GRPS LOOP sites are licensed by the State of Michigan and operate under all guidelines and policies as outlined in the Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers Manual.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1year childcare or youthrelated experience; or equivalent combination of education training and experience.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Prior to working with scholars in a structured program setting must complete LARA (PA116) mandated requirements:
    • Comprehensive Childcare Background Check (CCBC) including fingerprinting by LARA approved agencies.
    • Obtain CCBC eligibility to work in a licensed childcare facility.
    • Complete MiRegistry Health and Safety Online Course 1 and Health and Safety Online Course 2.
    • Obtain First Aid Certification and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) by LARA approved agencies; submit ARC/AHA certificate/card to Office of Extended Learning upon completion.
  • Negative TB Test: verification of TB status is required.
  • Valid state issued ID.
  • Fingerprinting required by hiring agency.
  • Child Abuse/Neglect Central Registry Check.
  • Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds ages and lifestyles.
  • Ability and desire to work with elementary and/or middle school children.
  • Working knowledge of computers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Supervisory experience.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Strong collaborative and teambuilding skills; ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to coordinate volunteer and programdelivery efforts.
  • Human relations skills including the ability to work with a diverse group of scholars parents administrators teachers volunteers and community members.
  • Creative problemsolving skills.
  • Knowledge of youth development (developmental assets).
  • Good computer skills including email word processing spreadsheet software etc.
  • Reliable transportation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Stands and/or walks during most of the working day. Turns stoops climbs bends pushes pulls reaches for and carries materials and equipment in the performance of tasks. Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds. Must be able to work outside for extended periods (up to the entire eighthour shift) in all weather conditions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work is performed indoors although there will be required outdoor activities. The employee is directly responsible for the safety wellbeing and work output of scholars .

MENTAL FUNCTIONS

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to compare analyze communicate both orally and in writing in the English language copy coordinate instruct compute synthesize evaluate use interpersonal skills compile and negotiate.
