The Director of Perioperative Services is responsible for the strategic leadership financial stewardship and operational oversight of all surgical and procedural care areas including the Operating Room (OR) Endoscopy PostAnesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Ambulatory Surgery Central Sterile Supply (CSS) Labor & Delivery/Womens Health and the Total Joint Program. This leader ensures highquality patientcentered care promotes excellence in clinical outcomes and drives continuous improvement in efficiency safety and staff engagement. The Director will oversee a team of department managers and clinical leaders across all assigned areas providing direct supervision mentorship and performance management.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement longrange plans aligned with organizational goals and national benchmarks for surgical orthopedic and womens health services.
  • Identify and act on growth opportunities service line expansion and market trends.
  • Foster collaboration with physician leadership anesthesia orthopedic surgeons and interdisciplinary teams.

Operational Oversight:

  • Provide direct leadership and supervision to departmental managers for the OR Endoscopy PACU Ambulatory Surgery Central Sterile Supply Labor & Delivery/Womens Health and Total Joint Program.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance accreditation standards and best practices in all assigned units.
  • Lead process improvements to enhance throughput patient satisfaction and staff productivity.
  • Collaborates with unit leaders to manage staffing models schedules and resource allocation to meet operational demands.
  • Ensure proper functioning and maintenance of surgical orthopedic and procedural equipment and supplies.

Financial Management:

  • Prepare and manage departmental budgets including forecasting and cost containment.
  • Monitor productivity revenue cycle performance and supply chain efficiency.
  • Analyze financial performance and implement corrective actions as needed to meet fiscal goals.

Clinical Leadership & Quality:

  • Promote evidencebased practice clinical excellence and continuous quality improvement.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols infection control and patient care standards.
  • Support and develop nursing and support staff through mentorship and performance management.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and teambuilding capabilities.
  • Expertise in budget management regulatory compliance and quality improvement.
  • Effective communication and relationshipbuilding skills.
  • Proven ability to lead change and drive strategic initiatives.

Work Conditions:

  • Fastpaced highacuity environment.
  • Must be available for administrative oncall and emergency response as needed

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Education:Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Masters degree in Nursing (MSN) Healthcare Administration (MHA) Business Administration (MBA) or a related field preferred.
  • Licensure:Current unrestricted RN license in the state of employment.
  • Certifications:BLS required; additional perioperative or leadership certifications (e.g. CNOR NEBC) preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in acute care perioperative or surgical services.
    • Prior clinical experience in the operating room setting strongly preferred.

State/Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements:

  • Current State of Connecticut licensure as a Registered Nurse. Certification from a professional nursing body preferred.

Bristol HealthMandated Educational Requirements:

General orientation at time of hire. Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually. Healthcare Provider CPR from American Heart Association. Successfully complete all training programs as determined by Learning & Development and Human Resources department. Other unit based competencies/skills as required.

Special Requirements:

Successfully complete unit based competency package plus unit specific items.

Physical Requirements:

Physical agility with repetitive occurrence including but not limited to; walking running bending stooping climbing stairs kneeling crouching crawling balancing reaching standing sitting and twisting. Lifting greater than 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the work day. Looking at a computer monitor. Vision acuity correctable to normal. Hearing acuity correctable to normal. Acute sense of smell for normal perception. Ability to verbalize so that the average person can comprehend.

Work Environment:

Must be willing and able to work in a clinical setting. Must be willing and able to work in an environment where priorities can change quickly and be able to manage appropriately. Must be willing and able to work with patients and be exposed to blood and other bodily fluids. Must be willing and able to work in an interdisciplinary team setting.

Cognitive Requirements:

Must possess excellent communication skills. Must be able to read both routine and technical information with comprehension. Must be able to write so the average person can comprehend. Must be able to perform simple calculations for medication doses physical exams and tests administered.
