Job Description
Overview
The Senior Accountant plays a crucial role in the financial governance of an organization. This position is not just about maintaining the balance sheet; it involves a comprehensive understanding of financial processes and regulations to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. The Senior Accountant will serve as a vital resource for analyzing financial data and ensuring compliance with both external regulations and internal policies. As a mentor to junior staff this role fosters knowledge transfer and enhances the overall functionality of the finance team. The Senior Accountant will coordinate monthly closings develop financial forecasts and assist in audits making this position integral to strategic planning and decisionmaking. Through precise financial reporting and analysis the Senior Accountant will directly contribute to the organizations financial health enabling sustainable growth and longterm success.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and oversee the general ledger accounts and ensure their accuracy.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements including balance sheets income statements and cash flow statements.
- Conduct monthly reconciliation of bank and investment accounts.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes effectively.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts.
- Prepare and file federal state and local tax returns.
- Support external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards.
- Assist in the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends and insights for management.
- Collaborate with team members to support overall finance department objectives.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior accounting staff.
- Prepare audit schedules and liaise with auditors during a review.
- Continuously review and improve accounting processes to enhance efficiency.
- Stay updated on the latest accounting trends regulations and best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree in Accounting Finance or a related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks SAP or similar tools).
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
- Excellent analytical and problemsolving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication skills both written and verbal.
- Experience in tax preparation and compliance.
- Knowledge of auditing processes and procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Familiarity with financial regulations and compliance requirements.
- Ability to adapt to changing technologies and improve processes.
