Salary and Benefits: $26.95/hour; $28.31 after successful completion of the probationary period along with a competitive benefits package complete with extended health and dental benefits access to our Employee & Family Assistance Plan (EFAP) and enrollment in OMERS (Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System) pension plan. Public Works offers training opportunities with the ability to qualify for a variety of positions within the department with hourly rates ranging from $30.00 to $32.84 (2025 rates).

Position Requirements
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
- Class G drivers license is required.
- Class DZ license is considered an asset.
- Note: Applicants who do not currently hold a Class DZ license must be willing and able to obtain it within the sixmonth probationary period.
- Book 7 training is considered an asset
- Experience in plowing and salting in a municipal setting (roads sidewalks etc.) considered an asset
- Physical demands Ability to lift over 10kg extended periods of driving (sitting) standing pushing pulling reaching etc. on a regular basis
Demonstrated Skills and Abilities
- Trades or construction experience
- KnowledgeandcompetencyoftheHighwayTrafficActEmploymentStandardsAct and Occupational Health and Safety Act (Green Book)
- Experiencewithoperatingavarietyofmaintenanceequipment and toolssafelyandefficiently
- Reliableandcooperativewiththeabilitytoworkscheduledshiftworkandafterhours emergency and weatherrelated callins
- Abilitytoworkaloneorwithminimum supervision
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well in a team environment and interact tactfully with the citizens of Sarnia
