GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

As a Junior Accountant at Waste Connections of Canada you will be involved with every piece of the accounting cycle. You will support the District Controller in daily accounting tasks in addition to monthly forecasting the annual budget and special projects. You will interact with employees from all aspects of the business including Operations Sales Dispatch and Customer Service. Your success within the role is reliant on an ambitious work ethic excellent communication and the ability to problemsolve. The key to Waste Connections continued growth and success is sourcing developing and promoting individuals who meet these expectations.

As a Junior Accountant with us the minimum responsibilities are:

  • Coordinate monthend district close process including billing.
  • Prepare key GL journal entries.
  • Review and approve all accounts payable invoices.
  • Prepare monthend financial statements and monthly analysis reports.
  • Assist with annual budget preparation.
  • Review and approve various items in Trux Cash Adjustments.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliation for various districts.
  • Reconcile monthly GST submissions for various districts.
  • Implement and maintain daily weekly and semimonthly reporting processes.
  • Assist with preparation of financial analysis for any district project or decision as required.
  • Prepare all capital purchase requests for the district including preparation of all support documents.
  • Coordinating and performing Inventory counts Rolling Stock Container & Truck Shop / Container Shop inventory.
  • Various ad hoc projects

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting Finance or Economics.
  • Enrolment in or plans to enroll in CPA or MBA program
  • 3 years of accounting experience in a similar role
  • Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office applications.
  • Analytical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Must be a selfstarter with the initiative to learn and a great work ethic
