JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Penn State University Police and Public Safety Department is excited to announce a student internship opportunity for interested students. In collaboration with the Criminology Department in the College of Liberal Arts and University Police and Public Safety Diversity Equity and Inclusion Unit funding will be provided to help participants gain handson experience within various areas of the University Police and Public Safety Department.
Students may receive academic credit or be paid for successful completion of the internship from their institution of higher learning. Student interns could engage with various units including: the Diversity Equity and Inclusion Unit Criminal Investigations Unit Uniformed Patrol Division Administration/Records and the CommunityOriented Policing Unit.
Interns will assist with creating engaging and assisting with diversity equity and inclusion initiatives throughout the commonwealth. Some of those initiatives include recruitment and retention efforts training opportunities and participating in outreach with the Community Oriented Policing Unit.
Additional qualifications for interested candidates include: at least 18 years of age currently enrolled as a student at Penn State University with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Preference will be given to students who have completed at least two years of coursework at an accredited college or university. A standard background check in addition to a CLEAN/NCIC federal fingerprint check will be required prior to hiring. If the applicant has a valid drivers license a motor vehicle check will also be required.
Applicants are asked to submit a cover letter clearly stating their reasons for applying for the internship with the Penn State University Police Department their relevant qualifications (may include coursework) and their expectations of the internship program. Additionally interested candidates are asked to upload a resume and a list of three (3) professional or academic references. Successful candidates will also be required to provide an original copy of their current transcripts.

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties.
