Essential Functions
- Under the direction of the Accountant Supervisor independently performs complex accounting and auditing work involving the maintenance of a variety of general departmental funds of grants accounts and preparation summarization and examination of related financial reports and statements for state and federal usage.
- Records and monitors encumbrances/obligations against allotments assuring that sufficient funds are available and alerts Business Administrator or Agency Procurement Officer when potential deficits exist or when cancellations are advisable.
- Establishes and audits accounting and fiscal records in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Independently performs internal auditing work of a complex or advanced nature in examining and verifying accuracy of a wide variety of accounting books reports records documents statements and other fiscal and financial related information operations and procedures.
- Independently performs professional accounting work in maintaining and examining complex departmental budgetary reports and statements for departmental usage.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college with courses in business administration and accounting.
- Requires two (2) years of professional experience in accounting external auditing budgetary planning and control or public accounting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years experience preparing comprehensive accounting reports.
- Two (2) years experience evaluating more difficult accounting problems analyzing and interpreting more complex accounting records.
- Two (2) years experience using accounting and auditing theory principles methods and procedures.
- Two (2) years experience with laws rules and regulations relating to state or nonstate accounting or auditing procedures.
- Two (2) years experience reviewing detailed work including written or numerical data and making calculations rapidly and accurately.
- Working knowledge of office methods procedures standard office accounting machines and equipment.
- Experience establishing and maintaining satisfactory working relationships and dealing tactfully with controversial problems.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to pass a background check.
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties with overnight stays as appropriate.
- Requires ability to attend seminars conferences and trainings to stay current on methods tools ideologies or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
- Requires use of agencysupplied equipment (mobile phone laptop etc.).
- Overtime is a condition of employment and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled unscheduled or lastminute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.
