The Cost Accountant is a new addition to our Finance team. This person will have a deep understanding of inventory and be able to accurately report on and cost the inventory for our vertically integrated business. The Cost Accountant will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective flow of inventory from seed to sale while working cross functionally with other department leads and managers to ensure smooth inventory processes and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing and overseeing inventory management across the company and costing of inventory.
- Coordinates with outside auditors and provides needed information for the annual external audit.
- Conduct detailed cost analysis for various projects and operations including cultivation processing and distribution of cannabis products.
- Oversee inventory control processes tracking costs associated with raw materials and finished goods in compliance with state regulations.
- Plan and coordinate travel to various company locations for audits training sessions or operational assessments.
- Stay updated on state and federal regulations pertaining to cannabis accounting and finance ensuring that all practices are compliant.
- Work closely with the operations team to identify costsaving opportunities and improve financial performance across locations.
- Prepare for internal and external audits ensuring all financial records and documents are accurate and readily available.
- Communicate financial information effectively to stakeholders including management and regulatory bodies while maintaining transparency.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field.
- Proven experience in cost accounting roles 3 years minimum.
- Experience in the cannabis industry or a regulated industry is a plus.
- Familiarity with state and federal regulations governing the cannabis industry including tax laws and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks Sage Microsoft Dynamics 365)
- Strong Excel skills for financial modeling and analysis.
- Excellent analytical and problemsolving abilities to assess financial data and make informed recommendations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail in financial reporting and compliance.
- Ability to adapt to changing regulations and industry standards in the evolving cannabis market.
- Willingness to travel frequently within the state to oversee operations attend meetings and conduct audits.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with various departments and external stakeholders.
