SCOPE OF POSITION: To provide nutritious wellprepared meals which are served to all campers staff and guests. The Food Service Lead will also oversee all aspects of the Summer Food Service Program and other foodservice operations of camp including purchase preparation nutrition service sanitation security personnel management customer service and record keeping.

The SOSDC offers programs for campers 514 as well as a StaffInTraining program for staff 14 and 15 years of age. Must have the ability and desire to work with children parents volunteers and peers.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

QUALIFICATIONS:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative

  1. Manage the daily operations of the camp food and dining service including coordinating activities between the kitchen and dining room.
  2. Work with the Community Center Manager in operations of the Summer Food Service Program working to follow all requirements by USDA governing agencies.
  3. Work with the Community Center Manager in daily execution of the public Summer Food Service Program.
  4. Prepare a summer menu per the requirements of funded programs and additional budget.
  5. Manage the inventory and ordering of food equipment and supplies and coordinate with the Community Center Manager or Corps Officer for any routine maintenance sanitation and upkeep of the kitchen its equipment and facilities.
  6. Oversee all meal preparation assigning tasks to other staff as needed.
  7. Be prepared to take responsibility for meal/snack preparation if required and ensure their readiness in accordance with the scheduled meal/snack times.
  8. Be familiar with quantity requirements for menu items.
  9. In accordance with state and county health codes properly cool and store all leftovers and unopened food after each meal/snack.
  10. Assist with cleaning and care facilities and equipment. Following the health department and industry safety standards and codes.
  11. Ensure that all kitchen cleanup is completed immediately following each meal/snack.
  12. Secure kitchen before leaving at the end of all scheduled events.
  13. Maintain safe and clean work habits at all times.
  14. Ability to run the Camp Kitchen efficiently and with the highest standards of safety quality and cleanliness.
  15. As directed prepare a brief & inventory at close of camp evaluating the service program and information for future Head Cooks/Food Service Managers.
  16. Provide supervision support and motivation for StaffInTraining Crew Members and any minor volunteers when assigned to the kitchen.
  17. Create daily schedule of where SITs will be assigned working with other Program Staff for area needs.
  18. Develop a schedule and routine for one to one mentoring and personal progress evaluations.
  19. Keep proper record of food service volunteers (those helping with building projects and maintenance).
  20. Maintain a safe working environment: report all facility defects/problems to the Community Center Manager.
  21. Enforce all rules that pertain to the camp SIT program childrens program and facility on a consistent basis.
  22. Assist in emergencies or treatment of injured participants or staff. Follow up with the completion of appropriate paperwork as directed.
  23. Enforce all Salvation Army policies as well as any policies required by state or local government and guidelines indicated in grants for the program.
  24. Provide administrative support including filing data entry copies and other assigned tasks.
  25. Ensure proper care of kitchen and dining room including cleanliness care of equipment and reporting all needed repairs/purchases to Community Center Manager.

Behavioral

  1. Work with SITs on proper workplace etiquette and work ethic.
  2. Facilitate and assist in conflict resolution and appropriate responses for social problems among SITs.
  3. Recognize spiritual need of individuals which may require referral to the officer/pastor.
  4. Work with job leads and Community Center Manager to determine any issues that need addressed regarding the performance of assigned staff.
  5. Will communicate any camper parent or staff issues with the Community Center Manager immediately. Follow up with appropriate documentation as directed.
  6. Will adhere to and implement discipline procedures including necessary documentation and reporting created for campers and staff in cooperation with the Community Center Manager.
  7. Will keep camper and staff issues confidential. Do not share issues with other campers parents or patrons news organizations or staff who are not involved.
  8. Will interface respectfully with staff volunteers parents and campers of various socioeconomic backgrounds.
  9. Enforce all rules that pertain to the camp childrens program and facility on a consistent basis.
  10. Maintain a safe working environment: report all facility defects/problems to the Community Center Manager.

Program

  1. Will be required to work a varying schedule with some opening shifts each week (7am).
  2. Responsible to Directly supervise SITs in work duties in the event of a job leads absence.
  3. Responsible to work with Janitor and other Corps staff to make sure Chapel is reset on Fridays to prepare for church on Sundays.
  4. Ensure proper PTM policies are being followed in all aspects of programming.
  5. Perform other assignments/duties as directed.
  6. Regular and punctual attendance is an essential job requirement.
  7. Flexibility and a cooperative spirit are crucial characteristics of the individuals who hold this important position.
