Summary of Duties
As a Benefit and Eligibility Worker you will:
Interview applicants and determine eligibility for people applying for various programs and benefits through interviewing gathering and assessing information. Programs we administer include Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Long Term Care (LTC) services Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) Employment Related Day Care (ERDC) Domestic Violence services and various Medicaid (Health insurance) programs.
Play a critical role in providing a safety net that supports better outcomes for Oregonians.
Provide resources that support individual and family stability.
Provide personcentered services with a traumainformed approach to identify needs.
Create a work environment where everyone feels welcomed appreciated and valued.
Participate in professional development opportunities and ongoing education of cultural awareness.
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of experience determining eligibility for an agency program by interviewing to assess the needs of clients and interpreting and applying the policies rules and guidelines applicable to the clients situation.
An equivalent combination of education training and experience relative to the class concept.

Experience conducting work that requires attention to detail particularly with data entry and reviewing documents.
Experience communicating decisions regarding the approval or denial of benefits or services and adapting communication style to explain complex information such as rules or procedures verbally and in writing to diverse audiences.
Experience handling confidential or sensitive situations and information.
Experience demonstrating active listening; listening to understand retain information and applying lessonslearned to varying environments and situations.
Experience developing collaborative relationships that foster trust inclusivity and respect with internal and external partners.

Working Conditions
Your work will be conducted in the Office. This position is Not eligible for (Remote/Hybrid) Work.
Your typical work schedule will be Monday Friday 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST) onsite and inperson each workday at the Medford ODHS branch office.
Upon successful completion of trial service and all essential training a hybrid work schedule may be requested for one or two days per week depending on business needs at that time.
Contact with the public including contact with Oregonians experiencing emotional and financial stress.
Serve a diverse range of customers with compassion and professionalism through a trauma informed lens.
May require sitting at a computer or telephone for prolonged periods of the workday.
Potentially you may have required overnight travel to attend statewide meetings trainings Coverage Community Engagement and Outreach.

The Oregon Department of Human Services does not offer visa sponsorship. Within three days of hire you will be required to complete the US Department of Homeland Securitys I9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States. ODHS will use EVerify to confirm that you are authorized to work in the United States.
Must have a valid drivers license and acceptable driving record. If no drivers license must be able to provide alternate method of transportation.

This is a permanent fulltime position and is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).
This recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification.
The salary listed is the nonPERS qualifying salary range (AARate). If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying the salary range will reflect the additional 6.95% (APRate).
