The George A. Doc Lopez MD Laboratory for Regenerative Cell Therapy (Lopez Lab) in the Department of Neurosurgery at Mass General Hospital (MGH) seeks motivated candidates to join our team at the postdoctoral research level.

In 2018 the Department of Neurosurgery MGH and the Laboratory of Molecular Neurobiology at McLean Hospital both affiliated with Harvard Medical School jointly completed the worlds first FDAapproved autologous hiPSCdifferentiated dopamine precursor cell implantation for the treatment of Parkinsons disease (N Engl J Med. 2020; 382:). In 2023 the George A. Doc Lopez Laboratory for Regenerative Cell Therapy was established in the Department of Neurosurgery at MGH in honor of this achievement to support ongoing and future clinical trials of cell therapy for Parkinsons disease (NCT) and to develop and implement next generation cell production methods and novel cell therapies. The laboratory also focuses on disease mechanisms as a basis for developing new therapies with an emphasis on transformative translational applications to Parkinsons disease and related neurodegenerative diseases. The laboratory includes both a GMP facility to produce clinicalgrade cells for human clinical trials and a neurobiology laboratory for preclinical research.

The Laboratory is jointly directed by Scientific Director Bin Song MD PhD and Clinical Director Jeffrey Schweitzer MD PhD both of the Departments of Neurosurgery at Mass General Brigham and Harvard Medical School.

The Laboratory is now recruiting for a postdoctoral fellow. Candidate qualifications should include a PhD or MD degree in a relevant field such as neuroscience stem cell biology gene editing immunology etc.; evidence of scholarly achievement including relevant publications and grounding in clinical medicine or other biological or medical backgrounds is preferred.



Qualifications

Highly valued qualifications include:

Experience in stem cell culture and neuron differentiation Experience in neurodegenerative disease animal models neural circuit analysis optogenetics chemical genetics or electrophysiology Experience in gene editing molecular biology Experience in immunology Teamwork spirit and communication skills
