Merjent Inc. (Merjent) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Accountant. The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting key aspects of financial operations with a focus on corporate accounting and compliance. This role also supports accurate tracking of project costs revenue recognition and timely close processes. The Senior Accountant collaborates closely with project accounting coordinators and controller to deliver accurate project and corporate reporting.

This is a fulltime benefits eligible opportunity that will be based out of our Minneapolis MN office. The anticipated annual salary for this position is between $78300 and $113500 annually dependent upon qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

responsibilities

  • Apply client payments (checks ACH wires) to the correct invoices and projects.
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly sales tax reports and filings often using software or state portals.
  • Reconcile key GL accounts such as AR sales tax payable deferred revenue WIP and bank accounts.
  • Post necessary adjustments accruals or corrections to maintain accurate financials.
  • Assist in revenue recognition processes ensuring alignment with GAAP or applicable standards.
  • Ensure timely and accurate setup of new projects including budgets billing terms and revenue recognition.
  • Prepare and review client invoices in accordance with contract terms (T&M fixed fee percent complete etc.).
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting systems and processes.
  • Leverage reporting tools and Excel to streamline reporting and analysis.
  • Provide support to Accounts Payable specialist when needed.

qualifications and experience

  • Bachelors degree in accounting/finance or an associates degree in accounting/finance with 5 years of experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting or project accounting preferably with consulting industry experience.
  • Previous experience using accounting software and ability to run reports Delteks Vantagepoint experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting general ledger entry and accounting principles.
  • Ability to organize tasks and own the process.
  • Ability to learn quickly and competently manage details to ensure accuracy.
  • Time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Comfort in a team environment with changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative to improve processes.
  • Competency in MS Office (Word Excel Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Team player and strong collaborator.
