The Materials Manager works onsite to ensure timely and costeffective procurement scheduling inventory control and distribution of raw materials and components. As the chief purchasing agent master scheduler and primary liaison with suppliers this role is responsible for optimizing materials availability while minimizing waste and cost. The Materials Manager leads the purchasing scheduling and inventory team and continuously drives improvements in cost supplier performance team effectiveness and ERP system usage to meet production goals increase profitability satisfy customer requirements and support a thriving company culture.
Strategic Materials Management
1. Oversees materials management functions including master scheduling production scheduling purchasing and inventory control.
2. Develops purchasing plans based on production forecasts inventory trends and strategy.
3. Drives effective production planning to maintain optimal inventory levels and meet delivery timelines.
4. Analyzes material usage costs and trends to optimize procurement strategies and consumption.
5. Identifies opportunities for cost savings process improvements and supply chain efficiencies.
6. Collaborates with Engineering to drive costreduction and stability of supply chain for product development.
7. Stays current on industry trends raw material innovations and supply chain developments applying relevant insights to improve sourcing strategies and support product development initiatives.
Purchasing & Supply Chain Leadership
8. Serves as the chief purchasing agent leading supplier selection contract negotiation and performance evaluation.
9. Ensures resolution of Nonconforming Raw Materials (NCRM) issues.
10. Initiates manages and tracks raw material orders to ensure ontime delivery and supply continuity.
11. Manages materials costs through robust negotiation planning expertise and sourcing of alternative suppliers.
12. Maintains effective relationships with suppliers to support smooth operations and continuous improvement.
13. Manages and resolves supplier issues related to contractual obligations and the business relationship.
Production Planning & Scheduling
14. Creates and manages the master production schedule aligned with customer demand and operational capacity.
15. Initiates and maintains the production scheduling wheel.
16. Collaborates with Production to resolve lead time issues resulting from changes in demand or constraints related to staffing machines or materials availability.
Inventory Management & Control
17. Monitors inventory levels and adjusts safety stock reorder points and lead times as needed.
18. Ensures accurate inventory through cycle counting regular audits and ERP data validation.
19. Prevents stockouts and overstocking through detailed inventory analysis and planning.
ERP System Optimization
20. Leads continuous improvement projects related to ERP and materials management functionality.
21. Oversees accuracy and integrity of master data and planning parameters.
22. Ensures ERP best practices for inventory management.
1. Bachelors degree in Business Supply Chain Management Materials Management or a related field (equivalent knowledge and experience may also be considered).
2. Proven experience (5 years) in materials management and inventory control within a manufacturing environment preferably in wire and cable or a related industry.
3. Strong leadership and supervisory skills with experience managing a team.
4. Proficiency in production scheduling and the ability to manage materials flow to meet production requirements.
5. Knowledge of shipping receiving warehousing and logistics best practices.
6. Solid knowledge of lean tools and ISO 9001 quality management systems and their application to materials management.
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with team members suppliers and internal departments.
8. High level organizational skills attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks in a fastpaced environment.
9. Proficiency in MS Office Suite and materials management software or ERP systems.
10. APICS certification (CPIM CSCP) or equivalent is highly desirable.
