Job Description

Hours: Full time (37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday) or part time (16 hours per week Monday to Wednesday or Wednesday to Friday) dependent on candidate.

Purpose:

Botton Creamery processes the milk produced on our farm into cheese and other dairy products to produce around 10 tonnes of cheese a year. Creamery Assistants are key to the production quality assurance and sales of the awardwinning cheese. The Creamery Assistant is a physically demanding position which requires a strong attention to detail and the ability to work in complex food production environment. This role will also provide some cover for the food production area next to the creamery where we process liquid milk and other products.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Production Quality and Efficiency:

  • To execute the processing of milk into products as per company specifications and overseeing machinery used in the production of our highquality cheeses (and other dairy products).
  • To execute all food preparation in a timely and professional manner
  • Quality Assurance of cheese and other products at all stages of the production process to ensure consistency and safety of products.
  • To ensure that all ingredients are prepared weighed and measured ready for production
  • To be responsible for meeting all timesensitive activities in the production of dairy products.
  • To adhere to the organic standards as set out by the certifying body.
  • To contribute to the awardwinning standard of all Botton Creamery products
  • Work in the maturing room to manage the maturation of the cheese to meet outlined product specifications.
  • To work developing new products in line with the Creamery investment plans.

Health and Food Safety:

  • Manual handling work involved: lifting equipment and ingredients putting cheese into the mould presses moving cheese wheels around lifting on to shelves packing for dispatch.
  • To ensure cleaning rotas are adhered to at all times
  • To be part of the team responsible for keep the building clean
  • Ensuring products are accurately labelled from production to sale;
  • To complete maintenance of PPE and other general maintenance to keep the Creamery building a safe attractive and clean place to work.

Communication and Customer Service:

  • Support the Creamery Manager to integrate and train new staff.
  • Provide excellent customer service for retail and wholesale customers including taking orders and organising couriers.
  • Cutting wrapping and boxing cheeses for a variety of customers.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • The role requires some basic maths for calculations and measuring.
  • Food safety practices and regulation training.

Desirable:

  • Level 2 Food Hygiene & Safety.
  • HACCP for Manufacturing.
  • Experience working with learning disabilities.
