Job Description
Position Title: Seasonal Visitor Services Shift Captain
Department: Visitor Services
Reports to: Visitor Services Manager & Assistant Manager
FLSA Status: Parttime Seasonal NonExempt
Compensation: $18.50 per hour
Term: JuneJanuary 2026 (pending evaluation in September)
Schedule: 2032 hours/week three to four shifts per week including weekends evenings and holidays
Position Description:
Brooklyn Botanic Garden seeks several seasonal Visitor Services Shift Captains for the Gardens busy spring summer and fall seasons. Candidates must have customer service and cashhandling experience. Under the guidance of the Visitor Services management team shift captains assist in overseeing the daily operations of the Gardens admissions booths and related services.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide friendly professional and excellent service to all visitors and members.
- Ability to maintain focus and a positive demeanor during the Gardens busiest and slowest visitation times.
- Oversee daily operations in the Gardens admissions booths: manage staff breaks assist with visitor issues and alert management of technical or IT issues.
- Assist management team with opening and closing cash registers.
- Maintain brochures and other supplies necessary for daily operations.
- Answer phones and return calls related to Visitor Services.
- Provide support for membership enrollment.
- Assist in providing information and support to BBGs volunteers.
- Assist with other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in visitor services customer service or retail especially in a garden or cultural institution
- Excellent communication skills
- Exceptional people skills including the ability to work with diverse individuals with a variety of personalities strengths and goals
- Cashhandling experience
- Valid drivers license preferred
- Ability to work weekends evenings and holidays
