Description

Job Title: Assistant Coach Softball

Department: Athletics

Reports To: Head Coach

Supervises Directly: Student manager if applicable.

FLSA Status: Parttime nonexempt

SUMMARY GENERAL PURPOSE

Serve as assistant coach and assist in team operations management and coaching of studentathletes including the recruitment of students for the program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Serve as the assistant coach of the program by providing sport training and instruction under the direction of the head coach assisting in the conduct of practice sessions and development of contest strategy.
  2. Meet institution NCAA and ODAC obligations as the assistant coach.
  3. Select train supervise and evaluate student managers if applicable.
  4. Assist as needed with the implementation of a successful recruiting plan to yield an appropriate number and quality of studentathletes for the program including some or all of the following: assistance with the communication flow (printed online and telephone) participation in Randolph Admissions preview days coordination of interviews on campus in high schools and at homes or other locations with studentathletes parents and high school/club coaches.
  5. Assist with supervision of the physical conditioning and development of injury prevention techniques preseason preparation of studentathletes and postseason completion of program administrative duties.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  1. Provide general counsel guidance and inspiration to students regarding their overall success particularly including utilizing new student orientation activities career services and academic success programs as well as living successfully in residence halls and behaving within the Colleges student conduct expectations. Promote good sportsmanship.
  2. Assist as needed in developing positive alumni relations and fundraising efforts to support a competitive Division III athletics program.
  3. Demonstrate community involvement with active leadership as a positive role model including participation in teambased community service projects and encouragement of studentathlete participation in mentoring or other service programs.

WORK RELATIONSHIPS

Serves as a member of the Department of Athletics. Reports to the Head Coach. Assists with the recruitment and supervision of student managers if applicable. Must work effectively on a regular basis with members of the faculty and staff members in Athletics Admissions Student Affairs Alumni Relations Development and other College offices.

Qualifications

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION

Minimum qualifications include a bachelors degree and a commitment to the values standards and expectations of NCAA Division III athletics and a liberal arts college. An accomplished background in sports program preferably at the collegiate level.

Must have valid Virginia drivers license and insurance coverage (if driving own vehicle) or be insurable if expected to drive College/rental vehicles on school business.

SKILLS KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of sport program techniques and strategies. General knowledge and/or willingness to learn NCAA rules and conference policies and procedures. Good communication skills including effective verbal and written abilities. Solid organizational and leadership skills. Ability to work effectively with a diverse population. Ability to work effectively with students families staff faculty and coaches. Ability to positively influence public relations between the athletic department the campus and the community. Computer and database skills helpful.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Travel may be required. Frequent weekend and evening hours are required. Working environment includes both indoors and outdoors and exposure to various weather conditions including temperature extremes. Indoor work environment may not be air conditioned during hot weather. Must have the physical ability to walk lift up to 30 pounds run bend twist climb see hear and communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
