General Summary:

The Network & Systems Manager provides technical coordination and leadership of network administration for Traverse City Area Public Schools Technology Department. This position is primarily responsible for the oversight coordination and strategic planning of the districts network infrastructure and associated systems. The Network & Systems Manager maintains the availability functionality and performance of the networkcomputing environment including but not limited to voice video and data application utilization. This includes operational supervision and monitoring of resources located in the TCAPS Data Center.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Design and implement network projects in assigned areas including fiber optic wireless LAN PointtoPoint microwave links Microsoft Servers VSphere cloud architecture and Google Admin Panel.
  2. Directly oversee and coordinate the activities of the network technician ensuring efficient and effective network management.
  3. Perform network hardware and software upgrades.
  4. Perform software hardware or network configuration evaluations before major software or hardware purchases are made.
  5. Perform the operation and testing of network software and hardware configurations.
  6. Develop and implement standard operating procedures and best practices for network administration.
  7. Troubleshoot network hardware and software including servers storage routers switches firewalls and wireless controllers and access points.
  8. Build and collaborate relationships with regional and national service providers including Northwest Education Services Northwestern Michigan College Michigan Department of Education Microsoft Google etc.
  9. Responsible for maintaining disaster planning backups and emergency response.
  10. Manages the district phone system.
  11. Perform moves additions and changes of user accounts for the network.
  12. Assist in monitoring the performance of all network servers on a daily basis to detectpotential errors or problems and provide necessary prevention guidelines.
  13. Responsible for the coordination and administration of hardware and software security procedures including but not limited to antivirus and patch management.
  14. Responsible for the management of Sabin Data Centers colocation program with outside organizations.
  15. Responsible for the design and maintenance of a centralized storage and reporting solution for all data used in the analysis of student achievement and district processes.
  16. Support database processes to automate the collection and centralization of data from disparate data systems across the district.
  17. Provide ancillary support/assistance for district systems with database components.
  18. Oversee the coordination and administration of hardware and software security procedures including all aspects of cybersecurity.
  19. Responsible for monitoring the performance of all network servers on a daily basis to detect potential errors or problems and providing necessary prevention guidelines.
  20. Provide ongoing support to users.
  21. Assist technology integration efforts.
  22. Available for emergency calls and troubleshooting information systems 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
  23. Troubleshoot and resolve network communication problems.
  24. Provide project management services for existing and new projects.
  25. Participate in team department and organizational activities meetings and committees.
  26. Manage and maintain network documentation including network diagrams configurations and inventory.
  27. Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  1. Must be able to report on a regular and consistent basis to the office.
  2. Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
  3. The person in this position needs to be able to move about the office setting including stooping or crouching to access file cabinets office machinery etc.
  4. Regular use of computer and other office equipment (printer/copy machine etc.)
  5. The ability to listen and effectively communicate both written and orally information and ideas to a diverse population.
  6. Ability to effectively discern information and formulate appropriate action(s).
  7. Ability to critically think and provide appropriate solutions.
  8. Ability to work effectively and efficiently in high stress or conflict situations.
  9. Occasionally moves boxes and office supplies weighing up to 50 lbs across the office for various needs.
  10. Ability to drive to various locations throughout the district.
