The Job Goal: Under the supervision of the Principal the Vice Principal will help manage the building and supervise the educational program in the school by providing support and direction to the teaching staff in such a way as to create an environment that meets the academic and personal needs of the students.
Reports to: The Principal
Supervises: Building staff as designated by the Principal
Major Duties: Staff Supervision and Evaluation:
- Assist the Principal in interviewing hiring and orienting new teachers.
- Assist the Principal in the supervision of teachers through classroom observation and consultation with individual teachers.
- Assist the Principal in the evaluation of teachers and make written recommendations to the Principal as requested.
Curriculum Supervision:
- Assist and advise the Principal in managing curriculum within the building.
- Assist the Principal in planning and conducting faculty meetings and inservice programs in cooperation with the Elementary Curriculum Coordinators when appropriate.
Instructional Leadership:
- Assist the Principal with instructional leadership.
- Assist the Principal in initiating and implementing system and school instructional goals.
- Be familiar with various best practices and researchbased techniques for diverse learners.
Budget Preparation and Administration:
- Helps the Principal determine budget priorities including personnel needs.
- Assist the Principal in preparing budget requests for review by the Deputy Superintendent for Teaching and Learning prior to its submission to the Deputy Superintendent for Administration and Finance.
- Assist the Principal in allocating supplies and instructional materials to the classroom.
Managerial Duties:
- Reviews substitute coverage daily arranges for inhouse coverage if needed provides for substitute building orientation and supervises their classroom performance.
- Assist the Principal in scheduling classes preparing groupings for the succeeding year and scheduling changes resulting from field trips and other special events.
- Coordinate arrange and supervise extracurricular and after school activities programs.
- Assigns student teachers cooperative interns volunteers and coordinates and supervises inservice programs as needed to improve their experiences
- Assist the Principal in the articulation and enforcement of school regulations including the school attendance process.
- Coordinate and supervise inservice programs as needed to improve the effectiveness of student teachers cooperative interns and volunteers.
- Assist the Principal in the articulation and enforcement of school protocols and procedures including the school attendance process.
- Assist the Principal in planning and conducting family meetings.
- Assigns and supervises personnel to oversee recess periods.
- Assist the Principal in the supervision of custodial and cafeteria staff.
- Supervise the cafeteria and pickup/dropoff procedures.
Qualifications:
- Massachusetts Certificate in Elementary Education Principal/Vice Principal License
- Three years successful teaching experience in grades K through 8.
- Masters Degree
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Committee may find appropriate and acceptable.
- demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with Aspen Teachpoint AESOP and Google products
- Experience with organizing ACCESS and MCAS testing
Terms of Employment: 195 days Unit B Contract
