Job Description

Embedded in a team of research staff and under the supervision of the Principal Investigator the Research Associate II is a midlevel researcher who is responsible for planning developing and carrying out research and evaluationrelated activities of multiple contracts and grants in the lab. They can work independently in a group without too much guidance. This position is fully grantfunded and contingent on grant funding.

Required Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences or related field required.
  • Masters Degree in Social Sciences or a closely related field preferred.

Required Experience:

  • Two to three years working on research and evaluationrelated projects.
  • Two to three years of experience with substance use and mental healthrelated systems.

Primary Duties/Essential Functions:

Prepare reports/manuscript proposal preparation and submission:

    • Perform data analysis.
    • Prepare tables figures PowerPoint presentations etc.
    • Write and prepare abstracts manuscripts and proposals for journals.
    • Develop conference presentations.

Develop and conduct surveys/interviews for research/evaluation and other data collection activities:

    • Conduct interviews and surveys (at offices and in the field including offsite participating clinics). Interviewquestions will be structured and semistructured.
    • Administer and oversee the delivery of standardized instruments and tests as trained and according to manualized instruction.
    • Track locate recontact and recruit prospective research/evaluation participants.
    • Screen and schedule prospective research/evaluation participants for interviews.
    • Extract and code data from existing files.
    • Maintain files/records related to participant status and data collection.
    • Observe project protocols to ensure uniform and appropriate completion of tasks.
    • Maintain confidentiality of research participant data and interactions.
    • Conduct participant payments and oversee the tracking log of payments.

Coordination of research and evaluation activities and information dissemination activities:

    • Coordinate planning and implementation of teaching and training activities (meetings conferences training sessions didactic courses eevents).
    • Perform notetaking recording and logistical support during trainings and participant progress report activities.
    • Coordinate scheduling assessments with the team scheduling meetings with participating sites and logistics as needed with project partners (national and international).
    • Prepare and oversee continuing education applications and protocols.

Screen and code interviews and other data:

    • Review completed interviews for internal logic errors and missing information.
    • Conduct reliability ratings on interviews and other assessments
    • Perform qualitative coding and cleaning on completed interviews and other study data.
    • Create datasets and codebooks for data analysis.
    • Compile clean and organize quantitative data to prepare for analysis and presentation.
    • Attend and contribute to periodic staff qualitycontrol meetings and regular project meetings.

Manage data entry creation of tracking database other computer tasks and coding quality control efforts:

    • Design data collection tools.
    • Keep track of participant flow and recruitment goals and milestones.
    • Maintain complete participant data files.
    • Provide feedback on data capture tools.
    • Attend and contribute to staff meetings and trainings.
    • Enter data into the computer.
    • Maintain files related to data entry.
    • Identify and correcting data errors.

Research and Evaluation Administrative tasks:

    • Work with PI on human subjects documentation and applications to Institutional Review Boards.
    • Gather information for periodic progress reports and other presentations.
    • Maintain orderly and accurate files and project documentation.
    • Support other research tasks as needed.

Skills:

  • Communication skills verbally and in writing for assisting with communicating various aspects of the projects with the project team staff liaisons and other project stakeholders.
  • Interpersonal skills for assisting the team with establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with project liaisons and various project stakeholders.
  • Organizational skills for assisting with various aspects of grant/contract projects (meeting agendas minutes records of training events reports).
  • Ability to follow details and engage in followthrough on project tasks.
  • Midlevel literature review skills to assist the team in the preparation of proposals reports and manuscripts.
  • Midlevel skills in data collection data entry and data cleaning.
  • Midlevel skill in coordinating conferences for research dissemination and conference travel.
  • Midlevel skill in human subjects protocols IRB management and certifications in responsible conduct of research.
  • Comfort working independently taking initiative and working collaboratively as part of a team
  • Willingness to be flexible in work hours depending on project needs and requirements.
  • Implementingthe administrative aspects of the projects.
  • Regular punctual attendance as required by the supervisor based on department needs.
  • Perform other duties related to the position as requested by the supervisor.
  • Drivers license and transportation for attending meetings on off campus as it pertains to functions of the grant.

  • Intermittent sitting and standing.
  • Requires keyboard and 10key work.
  • Extensive phone usage.
  • Ability to lift pull grasp bend and reach.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.

  • Computer monitor and reading.

  • Pleasant office setting a comfortable temperature.
  • Multiple conversations and transactions occurring simunltaneously

Technologies:

  • Skilled in Google Apps. Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
  • Skilled in use of statistical software: Qualtrics SPSS and Qualitative programming.
  • Skilled in development technologies: Canva Adobe Powerpoint MS Publisher.
  • Skilled in referencing software: Endnote.

Compensation:

  • Grade 10: $25.94 to $29.83 is the hourly compensation for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications experience and internal equity. In addition to compensation APU offers a competitive benefits package.
