Position Title: Financial Accountant Supported by: Controller FLSA Status: FullTime Exempt/Salary Our Story: Food Bank for the Heartland has connected our communities with food resources and hope since 1981. We work with individuals organizations food manufacturers and distributors grocery stores the USDA and Feeding America to procure food and purchase food to supplement donations. In Short: Supports the Controller in monthend close yearend close and annual audit. Ensures that financial reports are submitted in a timely manner as a collaborative effort; makes certain that daily activities are recorded and reported correctly; assists in implementing automated systems for a number of accounting functions such as accounts receivable and accounts payable; monitors internal controls. Your Mission: Accounting Close and Financial Reporting: - Assist with the monthly and annual accounting close cycle including the timely and accurate reconciliation of accounts (agency receivables federal award receivables payables prepaid assets inventory and fixed assets) to complete the financial and operating statements. This includes both the subsidiary ledger to the general ledger as well as detail account validations.
- Prepare adjusting journal entries and monthend journal entries including payroll accruals based on a review of the accounting information and records.
- Conduct monthend and yearend closures.
- Assist in the annual financial audit preparation.
- Apply new accounting policies and ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
- Reconcile bank statements.
Accounts Receivable/Payable and Cash Management: - Oversee and monitor the accounts receivable bank balances along with EFTs and online donations received by the Food Bank.
- Perform daily bank deposits ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Oversee the accounts receivable and accounts payable functions.
- Coordinate and process accounts payable in the ERP and Concur systems including obtaining appropriate approvals from FBFH staff members.
Internal Controls and Compliance: - Monitor internal control and implement additional internal controls as needed.
- Abide by a strict code of confidentiality in all matters related to the agency.
- Apply new accounting policies and ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
Strategic and Departmental Support: - Contribute to department strategy and goal setting in partnership with the Controller.
- In conjunction with the Controller assist in implementing fiscal goals and objectives commensurate with the agencys mission.
- Participates in creation and review of departmental SOPs
- Other duties entrusted within your scope of practice.

Your Story:
- Bachelors degree in finance or accounting from an accredited institution required.
- One (1) year of accounting and/or finance experience required.
- Experience with nonprofit accounting and/or public accounting preferred.
- Relevant experience can substitute for education requirement.
- Lived experience with the impacts of systemic racism or marginalization is a plus.
