Assistant Professor of English Tenure Track
POSITION: The Humanities Division of Bethany College invites applications for a tenuretrack position as an Assistant Professor of English to begin Fall 2025.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS: The position includes a 24credit annual teaching load. A portion of this course load will include interdisciplinary writing courses and other core classes. The rest will include classes in creative writing literature theory or textual studies courses (depending on the candidates experience and area of specialization).
A Ph.D. is desired for the position though ABD candidates will be considered. The ideal candidate would have an interest in teaching courses in pre1800 Anglophone literature. The area of specialization is open; however a demonstrated interest in composition/rhetoric languages/linguistics digital humanities gender studies video game studies or comics is preferred.
Additional responsibilities will include continuing the collection and analysis of materials for program assessment; advising students within the English major; and a commitment to aiding the department and the college in recruitment.

QUALIFICATIONS: A terminal degree in writing literature or a related field. The candidate must have a solid generalist background and be able and willing to teach a wide variety of courses ranging from introductory and upperlevel studies in writing to courses in the applicants field. Strong writing pedagogy experience is required; the writing instruction load will require participation in the colleges interdisciplinary general education program most of which is taught collaboratively. Demonstrated excellence in teaching and the ability to work with colleagues across disciplines.
SALARY: Contingent upon experience.
DEPARTMENT: This position is in the Humanities Division. The division offers Bachelors degrees in English (writing or literary studies focused) English Teaching and Religion as well as Minors in English Religion and Womens & Gender Studies.
