Job Description

Job Description Summary

The Advanced Lead Engineer is an individual contributor hardware owning engineer reporting to an Engineering Manager within the Aerospace Engineering Divisions Integrated Manufacturing Engineering team. As a hardware owner you will own all engineering functions related to the production of assigned Commercial and Aeroderivative components in the Combustors and Structures commodities.

In this role you will be on the front lines of an organization that is dedicated to improving the producibility enhancing the EngineeringSupply chain relationship and using SQDC to dramatically improve the health of the supply chain and product to enable the business to fulfil our customers expectations.

Examples of specific tasks you will be responsible for are: producibility design changes ongoing manufacturing support and strategic improvements across Castings Forgings Machining and Coatings for the assigned commodity.

You will also be responsible for departmental operations planning/execution or focused on execution of professional activities within a technical discipline. The role has some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results.

The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality volume timeliness etc.).

Site Overview

Established in 2000 the John F. Welch Technology Center (JFWTC) in Bengaluru is our multidisciplinary research and engineering center. Engineers and scientists at JFWTC have contributed to hundreds of aviation patents pioneering breakthroughs in engine technologies advanced materials and additive manufacturing.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Utilizes indepth knowledge of a technical discipline and analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.
  • Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
  • Uses some judgment and has some ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements. Explains information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field. Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD/ MTech/ MS/ BTech in Mechanical/ Aerospace/ Structural Engineering or equivalent
  • 6 years of relevant experience in relevant engineering role.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and projects.

Desired Characteristics

  • Previous experience in manufacturing especially of Aerospace components.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
  • Ability to document plan market and execute programs
  • Effective project management skills
  • Exposure to Aircraft engines or Gas turbine product knowledge
  • Ability to build macros/ automation within work area
  • Ability to start problem solving from first principles hand calculation.
  • Awareness of Lean/Sixsigma methodologies
  • Previous experience in design of aviation components.
  • Certification in ASME Y14 or practical experience with GD&T.
  • Humble: respectful receptive agile eager to learn
