The Communication Specialist/Writer is responsible for creating compelling written content that communicates the universitys mission strategic initiatives and achievements to internal and external audiences. This role combines storytelling brand voice alignment and strong editorial skills to support the universitys communication strategies. The Specialist will collaborate with departments across campus to craft engaging materials that promote enrollment advancement academic programs and institutional priorities.
Responsibilities
- Produce clear engaging and brandconsistent content for print digital web and social media platforms.
- Write press releases speeches feature stories newsletters talking points opeds and internal announcements.
- Develop scripts and copy for marketing videos campaigns and public service announcements.
- Collaborate with the marketing and public relations team on communications plans and editorial calendars.
- Assist in crisis communication drafting and rapidresponse messaging as needed.
- Proofread and edit copy for accuracy grammar tone and consistency.
- Assist in developing and maintaining editorial style guides and standards.
- Support media outreach by preparing press materials and media briefings.
- Collaborate with faculty and leadership to develop stories that highlight academic excellence and community impact.
Education
- Bachelors degree in Communications Journalism English Public Relations or a related field.
- Minimum of 35 years of professional writing or editorial experience preferably in higher education nonprofit or public sector.
- Must be able to lift 10 pounds.
