Job Description

St. Marys Parish is a large vibrant Catholic congregation of 5000 families located in Historic Annapolis Maryland. St. Marys Parish includes St. Marys Church St. John Neumann Mission Church St. Marys Elementary School and St. Marys High School. St. Marys is seeking an outgoing faithfilled person to fill the position of Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry.

The Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry is a valued member of the parish Office of Faith Formation. Primary responsibilities include providing continuing faith formation social and service opportunities for the middle school (grades 68) and high school (grade 912) youth of St. Marys parish and for young adults (ages 1839) of St. Marys and surrounding Anne Arundel County. The Coordinator for Youth & Young Adult Ministry also works closely with and assists the Coordinator for Sacramental Preparation especially for the Sacrament of Confirmation. This is a fulltime 40 hours per week 12month exempt position. Candidates must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends. The Coordinator will be directly accountable to the Director of Faith Formation. The Director will serve as the Coordinators immediate supervisor. The Coordinator will be responsible for keeping the Director informed of all activities that fall under this job description and work with the Director in making decisions involving these areas of pastoral care catechesis and ministry.

Essential Functions

Youth Ministries

  • Plan and provide middle school and high school students with 23 events per month. Monthly events include a mix of social activities service opportunities prayer experiences faith topic nights dropins and/or retreats.
  • Recruit train and coach adult volunteers and youth leaders on the ministry team.
  • Meet with teens parents and families to guide assist mentor and advise as needed.
  • Assist with Confirmation sessions retreats and liturgies as needed and communicated by the Coordinator for Sacramental Preparation and/or the Director of Faith Formation.
  • Assist with continuing faith formation for middle school and/or high school youth not attending a Catholic school as needed and communicated by the Director of Faith Formation.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the St. Marys Elementary and High School Ministers to create a bridge between parish and school.

Young Adult Ministry

  • Coordinate events and other programs that meet the social spiritual and service needs of young adults at St. Marys and with the Anne Arundel County Young Adults group including but not limited to Theology on Tap bible studies monthly Holy Hours the annual Redemptorist Young Adult summer retreat etc.
  • Advise and assist young adults needing guidance prayer and/or mentorship.
  • Recruit encourage lead and mentor a team of volunteers to help run events and form young adults ministering to other young adults.

Other

  • Promote the Youth and Young Adult events/ministries through creative newsletters social media posts emails bulletins etc.
  • Attend Archdiocesan and local Anne Arundel Youth and Young Adult Ministers meetings.
  • Coordinate the annual Boat Show parking fundraiser.

Job Requirements:
The applicant must be a confirmed and practicing Catholic able to participate fully in the Sacramental life of the Church.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required.
  • Experience in catechesis and ministry to teens and young adults in a parish setting as well as an understanding of the unique needs and faith journey of young adults and young families.
  • A passion for the Catholic Faith and the ability to accompany teens and young adults in developing and maintaining a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Ability to recruit manage and coordinate teams of volunteers/ministers.
  • Strong desire to be part of a faith formation team and work collaboratively with others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be skilled at and comfortable with public speaking.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications as well as virtual platforms.
  • Experience in using Canva desired.
  • Must complete a background check and VIRTUS requirements.
