Job Description

  • Use your assistive technology expertise to drive inclusive learning solutions and champion accessible education.
  • Fulltime (1.0 FTE) appointment on an ongoing basis.
  • Base salary range: $100524 $111534 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

The Division of Student Life sits within the UWA Education Portfolio overseen by the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Education. Together with the Division of Student Accommodation and Community Student Life plays an integral role in the shared strategic goal of providing a worldclass student experience.

The Division has five core functions Student Administration Student Offices International Student Experience and Global Learning Student Equity and Success and Student Wellbeing & Engagement. The scope of services centre on the student journey from the provision of student programs and activities that support and promote access to UWA to student enrolment course planning transition and progression through the lifecycle of study to graduation. The Division is also responsible for the delivery of services that promote academic success and support wellbeing and engagement for an enhanced student experience. Student Life works closely with the Student Guild affiliated residential colleges and the wider UWA Education portfolio.

The Student Equity and Success teams facilitate a highquality student experience focused on access and support for students both academic and cocurricular activities that enrich an inclusive student experience including the development of a dedicated first year experience. The Equity and Success Team is responsible for the oversight of the Student Access and Participation Framework which through local ownership and accountability the University community seeks to empower all students to aspire to achieve and thrive at The University of Western Australia.

  • Apply your knowledge of assistive technologies and accessible formats to support diverse learners in a higher education setting
  • Work collaboratively with staff and students to implement practical personcentred solutions that reduce barriers in a tertiary education setting

About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated equivalent competency preferably in Occupational Therapy Nursing Social Work Psychology or other appropriate degree.
  • Substantial and extensive relevant or clinical experience closely related to working with people with a disability mental health condition or other chronic medical conditions in a range of settings.
  • Knowledge of current equity and diversity issues particularly as they relate to students with disability in higher education in Australia and a working knowledge of guiding principles and legislation relating to disability.
  • Demonstrated expertise in assistive technology including the ability to assess student needs and provide advice and training on tools (e.g. such as screen readers speechtotext software accessible formats and alternative input devices).
  • Ability to establish and review policy and procedures.

Note: Occasional weekend work is required during exam periods
