An Accommodation Specialist coordinates accommodations and support services for students with disabilities to ensure their equal access to educational programs and facilities. This position will assess student needs implement appropriate accommodations and support services and act as a liaison with faculty and community agencies in explaining services and advocating on behalf of students with disabilities.
This position reports to the Director Accessibility and Counseling Services.
Accommodations Management:
Review disability documentation to determine reasonable accommodations.
Determine accommodations for placement testing and collaborate with testing staff to ensure proper implementation.
Facilitate the accommodations process and address any issues raised by students faculty or support staff. Facilitate the processing of GED accommodation applications and documentation.
Coordinate approved accommodations and maintain an organized intake process for students with disabilities.
Deliver comprehensive training sessions and share expertise with faculty and staff during professional development gatherings orientations and other pertinent occasions.
Record Management and Compliance:
Maintain comprehensive student records while adhering to confidentiality regulations such as FERPA HIPAA and ADA.
Collect student data and maintain semester rosters for grant reporting purposes.
Monitor compliance with ADA and Section 504 Rehab Act.
Collaborate with various departments including Compliance Financial Aid Student Accounts and Registrars Office for Title IX pregnancy/parenting student requests.
Advocacy and Conflict Resolution:
Mediate conflicts between faculty and students regarding accommodations.
Advocate for students with disabilities and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
Retention and Graduation Support:
Assist with district retention and graduation efforts for students with disabilities.
Plan and implement continuous improvement initiatives for special needs services.
Educational Support and Resource Provision:
Assist students and parents with Disability Support processes for Transcripted Credit or Earn College Now courses.
Provide information and resources related to documentation accommodations placement testing and general college admission.

Required:

2 years (4000 hours) of occupational experience; a minimum of one year (2000 hours) of demonstrated relevant occupational experience within the last five years.
Experience working with students with disabilities in the secondary or postsecondary setting
Experience working with students and staff of diverse cultural social and educational backgrounds
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of disability laws that serve adults and students in the secondary school setting: The American Disabilities Act Section 504 of the Rehab Act and IDEA.
Knowledge of local community agencies and support services available to adults with disabilities.
