Job Description

Classification Title:

Biological Scientist II Independent molecular and cell biology experiments.

Classification Minimum Requirements:

Bachelors degree in biology or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience; or a Masters degree in biology or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field.

Job Description:

Assist the P.I. in the design and implementation of new laboratory protocols and perform mouse research studies. Responsible for independently directing and implementing the design construction and testing of new laboratory protocols. Design and perform molecular and cell biology experiments. Additional responsibility in culturing human fibroblasts LCLs reprogramming and differentiating patientderived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs).

Supervising/ training lab personnel. Supervising laboratory technician (s) that are directly working on projects as well as providing technical help to scientists working in the lab. Train and supervise graduate assistants as required.

Data analysis and preparation of manuscripts. Management of data analysis and the preparation of this data into figures for presentation in manuscripts for publication. Assist the P.I. in writing and revising manuscripts.

General laboratory maintenance: including ordering inventory supervising compliance with hazardous waste and biological safety requirements routine record keeping maintaining stock solutions including cell culture media and common buffers

Responsible for and required to protect laboratory (and UF) intellectual property. This includes maintaining confidential data accurately and safely in accordance with laboratory notebook SOPs and UF IP policy.

Expected Salary:

The annual salary range is $46000 $52000 and is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in biology or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience; or a Masters degree in biology or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; or a Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field.

Preferred:

Experience working with ataxia and ALS mouse models. Experience performing histological experiments to detect motor neuron degeneration and the presence of repeatassociated nonATG (RAN) proteins. Experience working on repeat expansion diseases.
