The successful candidate for the CAP Construction Superintendent shall be able to provide technical expertise in the areas of Project and Construction Planning Contract Administration Construction Methodologies Critical Path (CPM) Scheduling Project Quality Control and Management of field project operations on multimilliondollar Force Account construction renovation and major maintenance projects.
This position provides project supervision for projects including the coordination of all trades working together to ensure personal and project safety high level workmanship quality control trade skill training of unskilled labor forces compliance with plans and specifications completion within the time frames established by Critical Path Method scheduling. This position also requires strong expertise in construction supervision and construction methodology strong decisionmaking capabilities excellent team collaboration skills and highlevel communication skills.
The position requires weekly overnight travel to and from the assigned construction projects that could be located anywhere within the State of North Carolina. This position has a duty station assigned at the individuals permanent home address and is assigned a State owned and maintained vehicle that is used to commute to and from the construction projects and to perform Company business during normal working hours. This is a fulltime position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The work schedule is Monday Thursday 7:00 AM 5:30 PM but occasionally could require work hours on Fridays.
As of January 1 2025 there are new Salary increase adjustments to the States pay plan which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission. Effective January 1 2025. The new salary range (s) will be $58613.00 $102574.00.

The salary grade for this position is NC17. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as or lower than their current position. If selected for this position a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience funding availability and internal equity. Based upon these factors a pay increase MAY result.

Associates degree in construction management air conditioning heating and refrigeration technology industrial maintenance technology or mechanical engineering technology from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressive experience in construction or facility maintenance including two (2) years of supervisory experience in construction maintenance and/or repair of buildings and facilities; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five (5) years of progressive experience in facility maintenance or construction including experience in at least three (3) building or mechanical trades including two (2) years of supervisory experience in construction maintenance and/or repair of buildings and facilities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I II III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82 subpart F.
We support the Institutions and Facilities directly and indirectly by installing and maintaining kitchen plumbing mechanical electrical and electronics equipment. The DECMEngineering team consists of experts in architectural and engineering design property services project management and sustainability efficiency and resiliency (SE&R). These services support new construction renovation and likeinkind and upgrade maintenance repairs to the agencys physical plant while ensuring compliance with the NCDOA State Construction Office.
Through valuable rehabilitation and training for offenders we aim to improve recidivism rates. DECMConstruction undertakes construction renovation and major maintenance projects that involve longer periods of resource allocation with a focus on enhancing the departments infrastructure assets. DECMMaintenance which encompasses the Mountain Regional Yard Piedmont Regional Yard Coastal Regional Yard and three Satellite Yards provides essential plumbing HVAC/R and electrical preventative prescriptive and routine maintenance services to all Institutions and Facilities. Additionally our maintenance efforts include specific areas such as telecommunications electronic intrusion systems (EIS) fencing cameras fire alarms and energy management systems all focused on maintaining the Departments infrastructure assets.
DAC uses the MeritBased Recruitment and Selection Plan to fill positions subject to the State Human Resources Act with the most qualified individuals.
