Job Description

TITLE: Board Certified Behavior Analyst

LOCATION: Central Office

The Kansas City Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22000 students and 60 different languages are spoken in the homes of our students. KCKPS is home to Sumner Academy the #6 highest rated High School in the Nation and #1 High School in Kansas according to the US News rankings.

With Head Start/preschools 28 elementary schools 7 middle schools and 5 college and career academies/high schools we are the fifth largest district in the state of Kansas and our student population is approximately 56% Hispanic 24% African American 9% White and 6% Asian. To serve our students the district employs approximately 4000 employees including more than
1800 teachers.

JOB GOAL:

To provide behavior analysis services behavior analytic consultations and collaborate with teams to design behavior intervention plans for Special education students receiving specially designed instruction. The BoardCertified Behavior Analyst
would provide support and professional learning to school staff paraprofessionals and parents/guardians in appropriate behavior intervention techniques; conduct assessments and develop plans that conform to IDEA Kansas law and regulations and
other applicable statutes and regulation bodies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The BCBA performs the following essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Administers conducts evaluates and supervises the implementation of behavioral assessment measures.
  • Develops and designs behavior support plans including individualized goals andobjectives which can be implemented in the school home and community.
  • Supervise Registered Behavior Technician
  • Supports district staff in learning and in implementing the procedures derived from Applied Behavior Analysis that can be effectively used in an educational setting (pairing motivation reinforcement shaping prompts modeling etc.).
  • Ensures the evidencebased procedures of Applied Behavior Analysis are combined with target goals to support that learning or behavioral change will take place.
  • Educating staff to understand the environmental events that are crucial to student learning and change by providing training in analyzing the relationship between the antecedent the behavior the consequence.
  • Supports staff in the critical components of natural environment teaching (NET) to support mastery and generalization of skills.
  • Ensures appropriate behavioral data systems are implemented with fidelity so that quantifiable behavioral data is collected at regular intervals.
  • Educating staff in analyzing behavioral data and guide their understanding to look for patterns and common antecedents in the environment.
  • Educating staff in the continuous evaluation of behavior plans and their achievement of student goals and objectives.
  • Instruct staff to fluency on the proper implementation of educational behavior programming and plans data collection systems and all necessary monitoring and reporting systems.
  • Responds to referrals for service in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Adheres to the mission vision and core values of the Kansas City Kansas Public Schools.
  • Develop resources and training materials to provide professional learning to admini strators educators paraprofessionals and other pertinent educational stakeholders in the science of Applied Behavior Analysis.
  • Collaborates with public and private agencies to offer programs that foster prosocial skills and prevent challenging behavior for the purpose of providing services to strengthen families as well as students.
  • Conducts jobembedded coaching alongside educational stakeholders when Behavior Analytic feedback is needed.
  • Maintain good standing with the BACB throughout employment.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Meets the employment qualifications set forth by the Kansas City Kansas Board of Education and the Kansas State Department of Education.
  • Kansas teaching certificate in area of instructional responsibility
  • English as a Second Language endorsement preferred or be committed to obtaining that endorsement.

COMMUNICATION/ORGANIZATION:Maintains communication with school personnel and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students.

Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and analyze and interpret general professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports general curriculum and learning theories correspondence and protocols. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators staff parents students and the general public.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students peers parents and community; ability to speak clear and
concisely in written or oral communication.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 196 Days
SALARY: Classified Salary Schedule

STATUS: Exempt

REPORT TO: Executive Director of Special Education or Designee
Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the KCKPS Board of
Education policy.
