Job Description

SUMMARY: The Preschool Certificated Teacher works with preschool children who have enrolled in FACE Puyallup Tribal Preschool or ECEAP. The teacher provides strong learning where preschool children can develop and thrive. The teacher provides a model for parents on teaching motivating discipling and communicating with young children. The development of early literacy and strong relationship is a focus for all Puyallup Tribal Preschool/ECEAP staff.

ABOUT CHIEF LESCHI SCHOOLS: Formerly known as the Puyallup Tribal School Chief Leschi Schools was founded in 1976 to address the high dropout rate of the youth of the Puyallup tribe. It is the largest of seven tribal schools in the state of Washington and one of approximately 200 tribal schools in the United States. It is also one of the largest tribal schools to be funded by the Bureau of Indian Education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Develops instructional units lessons & day to day activities that promote academic achievement
  • Demonstrates use of formative & summative assessments that promote student learning & instructional practices.
  • Implements required preschool curriculums in the early childhood classroom.
  • Develops publicizes and carries out a program of early childhood education for program participants.
  • Maintains uptodate files on each student. Prepares accurate reports written plans and documents.
  • Contributes to required monthly reports end of the year report and data collections.
  • Completes the Children Progress Academic Assessment (CPAA) for each student in the fall winter and spring.
  • Arranges for and/or provides screening services for children and referral services as indicated.
  • Maintains weekly and daily lesson plans. Provides a copy of the weekly lesson plans to the ECE Coordinator/Supervisor as requested.
  • Uses a variety of instructional approaches materials and techniques to ensure that children learn to their fullest potential.
  • Collaborates with our Instructional Services staff & Administrators on behalf of student achievement.
  • Integrates Native American culture into the centerbased education program where appropriate.
  • Knowledgeable and shares information with families about community resources and further academic opportunities.
  • Classroom is organized and accessible for learning. Ensures that program materials equipment (such as computer cameras projectors etc.) and environment are kept clean secure and free from clutter and vandalism.
  • Provides a learning environment that is full of literacy learning opportunities and reflects the language and culture of the families.
  • Provides a daily routine that is consistent and includes all the required elements of a Preschool classroom.
  • Meets weekly with the ECE team to plan and evaluate program services.
  • Helps plan and facilitate the monthly Parent Group Meetings.
  • Reports to the ECE Coordinator on all matters of importance related to the PTP program.
  • Willing to attend professional development opportunities to increase job skills.
  • Meets other requirements as faculty member of the school.
  • Effectively uses wordprocessing electronic email Internet and digital cameras for the centerbased classroom.
  • Establishes rapport with families and empowers parents by building on their strengths.
  • Works well as a team member to develop the full potential of all participants and is selfmotivated.
  • Able to relate well to both children and adults of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Treats each child parent and coworker with dignity and respect.
  • Highly organized and adaptable to the families goals and needs.
  • Demonstrates positives student discipline routines & practices that promote student learning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors degree

Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education

Obtains and maintains any other required certification which includes First aid CPR and a food handlers permit

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Current or recent experience working with Native Americans or other similar diverse populations

Knowledge of or experience with:
AVID Responsive Classroom TraumaInformed Practices Restorative Practices Project GLAD Project Based Learning

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:

Successful criminal background clearance Successful and/or clear drug screening

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Best practices in teaching and learning & School board policies and procedures

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit and stand for long periods of time. The employee must frequently reach with hands and arms and is regularly required to talk or hear; stand and/or walk; bend stoop twist squat and kneel; and use hands to finger handle feel and perform fine motor manipulations. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Anything over the weight limits should be done as a twoperson lift or with a mechanical lift.
